George Shimizu's golf ace smoked out replies from two classmates not previously heard from by your scribe. Rest easy, George, you remain the champ in terms of age, 79, and for scoring the most recent ace, last fall. However, we have other winners. Chuck Arnstein reported scoring his fourth ace at age 77 last May and adds that wife Barbara has also accomplished the feat once. Finally, Jim Olsen wrote about a true family rivalry. He and wife Barbara, have each had three holes in one, six "eagles," as he referred to them in his note. Recent ailments have ended their golfing days, unfortunately. Any other golfers want to enter the contest?

I recently received a letter from Thayer School announcing a $50,000 gift from the Burnap family in memory of our classmate, Bob Burnap, the gift to support Thayer's program in biotechnology and biochemical engineering. A few news items picked up via Christmas cards—Paul Randall celebrated Christmas with a hip replacement. DonReich wrote of travel plans: Antarctica in January, Florida and Puerto Rico in February and March, despite having torn knee cartilage that has restricted his tennis. Don added that he and Connie frequently see Bob and Joan Ehinger at the symphony. Hex Harrigan penned from Brevard, N.C., that he hoped this job kept me busy and not worrying about hurricanes. Bud Wiggin sent his usual tantalizing card-puzzle dealing with Y2K but no further message. George Munroe was one of several to call and alert me to Frank Hartmann's passing. Officially retired, George keeps a pretty full schedule with New York City endeavors. He still chairs the Metropolitan Art Museum board and is active with a political science group (or is it the Foreign Policy Association?) and continues to play a respectable tennis game. While struggling with the flu bug a while back I read Thomas Friedman's book, TheOlive Tree and the Lextis. As a neophyte to the Internet I found it a fascinating read and I recommend it, particularly if you are not up to speed in computer literacy. Having recently read the student life initiative report of trustees Susan Dentzer '77 and Peter Fahey '68, my first question would be where can die College shoehorn in these proposed residential clusters? One death to report-John Albert Puelicher last October. Our condolences to his family. Stay well!
