Mid-April, tax time and its cold! A note from DAM tells me we have graduated to a more senior level, meaning that starting with the next column my word allowance drops from 350 to 250. Please don't use that as an excuse to not pass on news, however. Speaking of which, Miles Lasser responded to the query. "Any '43s still earning a paycheck?" with the info that, as executive director of a private charitable foundation, he rates "a paycheck subject to tax withholding, at al." He added that he hoped to make our 65th, having missed the 60th. Bob Ehinger penned a newsy letter commenting on Prexy Wright's comments at a March Dartmouth gathering near Stuart, Florida. Bob noted that the president emphasized the Colleges effort to admit students who are the first in their families to attend college. About 10 percent of the entering class fit that category. Bob mentioned having a brief phone chat with Jim Wells' widow, jane,-who winters in Harbor Ridge, Florida, and still summers in Maine. Bob and wife Joan recently had dinner with Thirsa and Bob Fuiks, who live in the Vero Beach, Florida, area and they also recently lunched with Swifty Barnes '42 (ex-Green Collegian band leader and trumpeter, wasn't he?). Louise and I, by the way, enjoyed the hospitality of the Ehingers for several days in mid- February. We were on a driving vacation to Florida seeking a bit of sunshine and warmer weather. The deceased list is a long one: Gail Grant, Richard Foley, James Gilfillan, George Mitchell, Robert Ott, George Graham and John Strohbehn. Our condolences to the families. I'm indebted to Paul Young and Bud Miskell for prompt reporting on several of the above deaths. To end on a less somber note, I thought for grand- and great-grandparents these parental quotes might produce a chuckle: "No, I do not want to see what was in your nose." "Don't lick the floor, I just cleaned it." "How did you get ketchup in your armpit?" "Oh, God. Who painted on the dog?" Enuf. Stay well!
