Fiftieth Reunion-June 9-11. Now, only last-minute details are left to be handled by your reunion committee under the very capable direction of chairman Joel Leavitt. Here's a review of the highlight events. Friday: sign in, professional schools' lunches, welcome dinner and a reception at President Wright's. Saturday: memorial service at Rollins Chapel, luncheon and presentations, reception for honorary-degree recipients, class banquet with Art Buchwald and Top of the Hop party. Sunday: commencement exercises on the Green in front of Baker Library, followed by lunch in the Bema.
At my last check, it looked like well over 200 classmates plus their mates will be in Hanover for the big 50th. On the day before, a bunch of the guys and gals will be whooping it up at the Ravine Lodge at Moosilauke. Then, after the Hanover festivities, those still in a party or reminiscing mode (or mood) will move on for a day or two at the Woodstock Inn. Sounds like a lot, but remember that you'll have all summer (and the rest of your lives) to recuperate.
All three grad schools are having lun- cheons on Friday. You M.D.s among us (and other interested parties): Don't forget the Thursday picnic get-together that PaulLena is honchoing. Also, the brothers of several fraternities and other groups are planning gatherings. Jim McCrum (the Aussie expatriate) and I are hoping to corral the 15 or so Phi Delts who are planning to come.
Cul Modisette writes that he is returning next summer to Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for a rugged, wilderness canoe expedition and still has space available. If you're interested and are up to it, call Cul at (860) 864-5538.
A Christmas letter from Larry Huntley shows he is still very busy pastoring and also working with libraries. He added, "One of my favorite hobbies: watching your column advance slowly closer to the front of DAM." My take is a bit different. I don't care for the implications of getting to the DAM front. The Harlows are off on a safari in Africa, the Sours and the Oakleys are coming to the reunion, the Whit Williams are into yoga, the Birneys plan a May trip to Germany and Switzerland, the Abbes are again besting the golf courses on Florida's west coast, the Webers hiked the whole of England and Scotland and the Fanners had almost as big a family at their 50th anniversary celebration as we did.
in closing, to those of you who are still on-the-fence, here's a chance to get together with old buddies you may not have seen for 50 years and, to quote my usually inarticulate colleague who writes the 5ifty newsletter, "Since then, the beauty of the campus has been enhanced and continues so to this day. It's one reason why many say, 'You can go to any college for four years, but you go to Dartmouth for life.' "
