A fellow New Hamp dweller, L. Dinison Howse, wrote in from Rochester, Minn., where she is currently living with her beau, a third-year medical student at the Mayo Medical School. Yet another example of the class of '93 entrepreneurial skill, Denison has her own jewelry business. She designs and creates jewelry in sterling silver with mixed metals and semi-precious stones. She just designed and released a Web site, www.denisonhowse.com, where you can check out some of her creations. Outside of her Internet sales, Denison sells her work in galleries and stores in six western and Midwestern states. You can find out more about Denison's jewelry sales on her Web site.

I am very jealous of John Katen who had the gall to tell me about his recent seven-month tour of 36 countries. Yes, you read that right, 36 different countries. I didn't ask John to list all 36 but now I wonder if he really means he actually traveled in all those countries or does he count layovers in airports. Anyhow, John said that he visited basically all the countries in Europe and Eastern Europe that are not currently involved in armed conflict and a good bit of the Middle East as well. He had "the time of his life." Go figure. In all seriousness though, John saved for this trip for five years and reports that it was the culmination of a dream he has had. He urges all who haven't seen Petra in Jordan to get on a plane tomorrow.

John also reported that he keeps up with John Eliot, who is in Charlottesville, Va., busy using his Ph.D. to "turbo-charge" the performance of professional athletes. Sorry folks, John Katen did not give any further explanation on what that means, however, he did mention that John Eliot works out in the gym with Howie Long on occasion. Thank you to Glen MacPherosn who felt so sorry for me begging for class material that he wrote in to announce his marriage. Glen writes: "Rapturously, in St. Louis, on October 16, I married my best friend since high school, Tracie Thomas (Baylor '93). Friends from all over the United States attended, but Dartmouth was under-represented in the form of a single (and yet treasured) friend, Jehanna Peerzada '90." The two high school sweethearts spent their honeymoon in Venice and the Amalfi coast. Glen is currently in his third year of medical school at Washington University in St. Louis and just spent a month-long family practice clerkship in Kiakook lowa.

Finally, our former Student Assembly president, Andrew Beebe is at the helm of a new Internet startup company. Andrew's Bigstep.com was featured in the SanFrancisco Chronicle this summer. The company is designed to assist small businesses build and host their own Web sites and compete in the world of e-commerce. The article gives a glowing review of the company and its CEO. However, the highlight in my view is the note that Andrew "talks differently from most CEOs and also wears a ponytail." Good oF Andrew.

On that note, I leave you all to reflect on the power of ponytails and e-commerce. Send me your news. If you haven't seen your name in this column in a while, you owe me an e-mail.
