Our Joe Lindner has achieved distinction for his volunteer role during four decades for the benefit of his prep school, Asheville. The award came from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), a professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications and development. Joe has served on the schools board of trustees and is touted as its most successful class agent. He founded the schools board of visitors, assisted in raising funds for two new faculty houses and on several occasions has driven thousands of miles across the country primarily to meet with classmates and other Asheville School alumni.

Fortunato Quesada, better known to us in our freshman year as "Lucky," has been reported in attendance at a Lima, Peru, gathering of fellow alumni. They hoped to entertain a group of Dartmouth undergraduates traveling the route of El Che Guevara in the Motorcycle Diaries, to do some recruiting in the fall and to conduct lectures with Dartmouth visitors in the area. Lucky left Hanover after his freshman year to finish his education in Lima, served in Peru's foreign service for 15 years and then enjoyed a 15-year career as an investment banker.

Going back 50 years, the February 1955 issue of DAM mentioned an impending marriage this way: "It might even be Mr. and Mrs. for Nancy Stotz and Russ Keep since their engagement was announced last fall. Russ is going to have to keep jumping to keep up to Nancy, since she received a B.S. from Vassar and her M.A. from Harvard." I guess they must have married and kept jumping because they produced seven children. Russ had a long career in social work, including AVCO/Jobs Corps, Children's Aid and Adoption Society and, finally, director of Group Homes. In the May 1955 DAM we learned that "Eugenie Marilyn Caldwell said yes to Justin Smith and the wedding is set for July. After Tuck School and the Air Force Justin moved in with Seymour Smith and Son of Oakville, Connecticut, and Jean is a graduate of Keuka College." Justin ultimately became president of that firm and retired in 1990. With three children and 11 grandkids to visit, Justin and Jean reside on Dataw Island, South Carolina.

Had I reported promptly to Dave Leslie, the September 1955 issue of DAM might have had the following item: "Rosina and Cpl. Peirce McKee announce the June 15 birth of their first child, Jeffrey, in the Phelps County Hospital, Rolla, Missouri. Peirce is stationed at nearby Ft. Leonard Wood and is scheduled for release from active duty next April." Finally, on another personal note, Jo Ann and I move out of her house in Moraga this month and into our house, a townhome, in Orinda. Phone number, once again, is (925) 254-1743.
