Women's wild weekends! In a synergistic mini-reunion wave Kathy Marshall Diekroeger and Jan Gordon both wrote about their recent all-female weekends. Kathy went to gorgeous Califon, N.J.(!) in January to commune with MaryFabio Kurtz, Debbie Stark Olsen, Julie Levenson, Heather Keare Huff, Carla SmallCronin and Tisa Hughes Robinson. As Kathy puts it, "Lots of catching up and celebrating Julie's engagement. And of course sampling some excellent wines from Deb's wine cellar!" In other news Kathy has succumbed to the prevailing S.F. Bay Area malaise and joined an Internet startup—an online swapping site (www.webswap.com). When not online Kathy serves as chauffeur and coach for her three
While Kathy takes the prize for the number of '84 women present at one gathering, Jan wins the award for location. Jan, Amy"Blonde" Eisenberg Folbe, Susan"Liddy" Lidstone Theiss and Amy "Red"Worden Smith spent four days in the Arizona desert, as she put it, "horseback riding among the cacti, drinking under the stars, and cackling out loud." They left behind them jobs and a mess of children: "Blonde" has four children and a busy law practice; "Red," three and a computer career; "Liddy" has four kids; and Jan herself has two children and works on and off producing films/TV. Jan comments, "That's right, we have 13 children between us!" "Red" is married to '81 Nate Smith and Jan to fellow '84 Derek Chow, so Dartmouth men must take responsibility for this minipopulation explosion! Want to get in on the next trail ride? The men among us didn't go away for the weekend, but they certainly have kept up with classmates. Indeed, Bill Berry wrote to expand on my brief comments about CurtOllayos a couple of columns back, and ended up ratting on much of Streeter! Curt, his wife, Christine Hellauer '86, and their three boys will be vacationing in Maine this summer with Bill and his wife, Susan, and their progeny Andrew (7) and Jenna (2). Of Curt's Streeter roomie Shaun Gurl, Bill says, "Shaun is the only guy I know who still lives in the exact same place (an apartment in N.Y.C.) and works for the same company (Time/Life—he's now Mr. Magazine Publishing Ultrapower Guy or somesuch) that he did immediately following graduation! He is now happily married with two boys (well, at least something's changed!)."
Another Streeter-ite, Bill's roommate Nick Coussoule lives in Atlanta with his wife and daughter. Nick is currently CIO of Pameco (whatever that may be). Bill suspects Nick still wears those same strange-colored golf pants he used to sport around campus. As for Bill himself he runs his own software/consulting firm. Life is "currently a lot of kid and home stuff and the 30-something soccer-dad thing." Bill wonders what the other members of their band EsoterixJohn Kim, Enid Jones, Warner Ide and Hank Erbe—are up to these days.
Finally, Jim O'Neill writes that after 15 years of "near invisibility (no newsletters, no reunions, no nothing!), it's time to come clean and let you know what I've been doing." I'd say! Paul moved back to the United States this summer after 10-plus years in Europe. Now headquartered outside of Chicago, Paul and his wife, Kim, have two boys, Matthew (3) and Michael (1.5). Paul is enjoying introducing the boys to life in these United States; baseball games, barbecue and visits to the grandparents. Paul concludes, "My e-mail is oneill@chicagovc.com and I'd love to hear from any '84s (especially old Kappa Sigs and Wheeler Dealers) in the Chicago area."
