Those of you who know me, know I am an easy fish for a party. Steve Day threw a great one in Raleigh for his wife, Kate Bravar Day, and I went.
I saw Thane Russell and his wife, Carrie, at that party. From Dartmouth I heard that Thane is president of Absolute Energy Ltd., and was appointed to Canex Energy's board of directors. Thane and Carrie gave me all sorts of news about fellow' 84s from their travels. I've tried to cull out some information that may be true and printable. While they were in London, they stopped to see Tod Bensen and his wife, Fiona. Tod is aventure capitalist with Cazenove & Cos., and they have a new pooch named Spunky. Thane also mentioned that the Days were not the only ones extensively remodeling their home, but that Paula and Kyle Gore s renovation of their home in Baltimore was huge. More news was that Paul McCarthy and his wife, Stephanie, have moved to Indianapolis from the Hague. "Chill" works for Thompson Electronics after rumored work in women's cosmetics.
Also at the party were Dr. Joel Draglin '83 and his wife, Kathy, whom I have met on prior trips to Raleigh. At dinner I was privileged to sit next to Kates brother-in-law Ted Demopoulos '83.1 saw Kate's sister Margaret and the newest Demopoulos Jami (11 months), back at the hotel. A little-known fact was passed along that Dr. Janet Perkins, an ob-gyn, was the doctor who delivered Jami. Janet and her husband, Al, are both runners and have two children. Janet practices in Durham, New Hampshire, and ran the Boston Marathon last year.
Big news from Dartmouth is that Christine Burnley Bucklin was elected to Dartmouth's 16 member board of trustees for a five-year term. Christine gave our class's valedictory address, then followed up with an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she was the first woman to graduate first in her class. Since then her illustrious career includes acting as management consultant and partner for McKinsey & Cos., then entrepreneur-in-residence at idealab! and now COO of Cars Direct.com. Congratulations, Christine!
I want to thank Leigh Garry and the Rev. Lu- cia Jackson for providing us with such a newsy class newsletter. Scoping for news on classmates, Ie-mailed Leigh to see if there was anything she didn't print. She wrote back that John Penrose is running DeWolfe.com, a new channel for customer acquisition and delivering homeownership services online. DeWolfe is the largest broker in New England. She also wrote that Charlie Hoban's dad passed away. Our condolences to Charlie and his family.
News from the gypsy Marianne McCarroll was that she has seen an announcement for Larry Kaplans engagement. Apparently Larry is to be married to Jill sometime in September. Also, Bob Salitsky and his wife Stephanie had a baby last May. Finally, Deenya Rabius is moving to Boulder. Apparently she found that a lot of her friends were there, and she decided that maybe shed rather live in Boulder than visit.
Last months column included information on Marion Radin's adoption of Chinese children. I'd like to apologize for any misunderstanding, but the Radins do not have a video of the event. Marion did say that if anyone would like to ask about her about the adoption process, they could contact me, Molly Wender, at the address below. I will contact Marion with your information.
Don't forget, our class has procured the DOC House for this years Homecoming evening Saturday, October 20. Mark your calenders now for this mini-reunion. We'd like to hear what you've been doing! E-mail or call me or Kathy with any news about you or your classmates.
