Last month I wrote about SashiBach appearing on NBC News. This month I pass along word of another '97 appearing in the media. This time Business Week. Drum roll please—it's Adam Nelson.
Adam was pictured on page on page E122 of the April 3, 2000 EBiz supplement. The caption read, "Flexibletime: A balanced life isn't just an empty promise at Icarian. Business-development analyst Adam Nelson, a shot-putter who is trying to make the U.S. Olympic Team, gets time off to train."
Next up, news from the nation's capital.
When I spoke with Theresa Ellis at the end of March, the cherry blossoms had just peaked. Theresa started a new job in January. She's running a nonprofit called the Center for Nonprofit Innovation. It's a subsidiary of elncubator Inc., a for-profit technology incubator. Both companies are located in Falls Church, Va.
The founders of elncubator started the nonprofit organization as a way for the incubator tech companies to give back to the community. Theresa is the first employee at the nonprofit start-up. "It's unbelievable how tangible every day feels," Theresa said. She said the Center for Nonprofit Innovation will provide technical assistance to existing nonprofits and eventually start a social venture fund that will provide grants to other nonprofits. One of Theresa's first tasks is to hire people. Theresa said that '97s who think this sounds interesting can contact her through her alumni e-mail address. Dave Zipkin still lives in D.C., where he has been located since graduation. He's now in his third apartment in three years. He's currently living with Kevin Spence and Damon Smith. They are down the block from Crissie Baseggio, Siobhan Gorman and Amanda Nevers.
Dave has been working at Tech Trader, a technology startup, for just over a year. Dave writes, "I'm enjoying working at a small company and things are going well. Kevin and Damon are working at Microstrategy during the week and finding weird projects to do on the weekend. Kevin's latest hobby is tending his garden, where he is trying to grow 200-pound watermelons and 500- pound pumpkins. Crissie just started working at a charter school in D.C. and Siobhan is a reporter and is also working on her first book." Dave recently went to NateSorruner's wedding to his high-school girl- friend Amanda. Kevin Price, Seth Bouvier,Brian Boynton, Chris Whalen, BrianSung, Marc Lewinstein '9B all made it to the celebration as well. Jim Donnelly almost made it up as well, but he wasn't able to get a vacation from his job teaching sailing at Club Med Cancun, Dave wrote. One more piece of news before I sign off. Jewel Jones is spending June in Zimbabwe doing missionary work for the Protestant Episcopal Church.
Take care, everyone!
