Francis V. "Bud" Brawn, Laurence Leavitt, Kenneth P. McDonough and Radford Tanzerwere all in attendance along with widows and family members for 1925's great 75th reunion, a first. Fifty percent of the class was represented during the June Commencement. The College gave the '25 family, with one glaring exception, a most wonderful time.
The widows of Edgar Bond Blake (Haven), George Newman (Virginia) and John Norris (Ellie) were among those there and added so much. Ginnie Newman works very hard in Sarasota for the women of Dartmouth there. Ellie Norris is our class treasurer who keeps us on track to the penny. Haven Blake added her charm before she had to leave because of illness. One of the most moving parts of the reunion was the memorial service, beautifully led by the Rev. Sarah Reeves. Jere Daniell '55, holder of the 1925 chair, ended our fun Saturday evening with his usual wit and humor. An added bonus for '25s at Commencement was seeing an honorary degree conferred upon Ted "Dr. Suess" Geisels wife, Audrey.
The 'glaring exception" to the wonderful weekend was the housing of the 96- to 97-yearold men, who were put up in Middle Massachusetts Hall. Not to belabor a point, but let it be said, this was unacceptable for such old people. Some left because of the room situation and none were comfortable. As people are living longer, there will inevitably be more and bigger 75ths.These events loom large in the minds of people of such an age. Please, let something be done to be kinder to people who have done so much for the College for so long.
To end on a happy note, the returnees had a fabulous time and are pleased to have given more than $190,000 to the College as their reunion gift. More reunion news next month.
