A wonderful time was had at our 1945 55th reunion in June. Eighty-six classmates and 78 ladies attended. Bob Aldom and Bob Pease are to be congratulated for chairing such a great event. We enjoyed a luncheon at nearby Eastman Center, a dinner/dance with great music that brought out many dancers, a concert by former Glee Club members, a memorial service, tours of the perennial gardens at the Presidents House, star gazing, bird watching and talks from faculty members and staff.
At the dinner/dance, held at what is now called Common Ground in the Collis Center (which we all knew as Commons), president Jim Wright was presented with a check for $110,000 from 1945. The class was thanked by President Wright. Agent Ted Safford and Dick Gilman were congratulated by class president Moe Frye the next morning at the class meeting.
At the dinner/dance our class was honored to have a recipient of the Dartmouth Alumni Award. Clifford Leslie Jordan Jr. was presented the award by J. Michael McGean, former secretary of the College, former secretary of the Association of Alumni of Dartmouth and a good friend of Cliffs. McGean said in his presentation to Cliff: "Your devotion to Dartmouth and your class is immense; you have been newsletter editor, secretary, mini-reunion chairman, class agent and Alumni Council member. Cliff, you have served the College with unmatched love and dedication." Cliff had his two sons and their wives present.
At the class meeting, new officers were elected. Joe Michael was elected to succeed Moe Frye, who has done outstanding work as our president for the last five years. Don Cole will be the new vice president succeeding Bob Aldom. John Osborn will continue as treasurer. I will try to fill the shoes of Don Sisson as secretary. Ted Safford agreed to remain as head agent, Bob Pease will continue as newsletter editor and Crawford "Bud" Elder will remain the class necrologist. John White and Steve Hull will continue as bequest chairs. Howard Hoots and Dick Hinman will continue as the chairmen for the next 1945 mini-reunion, scheduled in Hanover and Quechee, October 6-8,2000. More on that later.
