Re: Fond memories. I received a January 1945 newspaper clipping from Alan Epstein '47 telling of Charlie Holt "taking on the entire Yale hockey team when his two wings were in the penalty box. Holt's stick-handling furnished the decidedly partisan crowd with something to cheer about." Needless to say, Dartmouth won the game as well.
We hear that Ed Harte has given a substantial gift to the Corpus Christi campus of Texas A&M to establish a Gulf of Mexico research center. The $46 million grant is to help keep the campus in Corpus Christi and to thank that community for the life he and his late wife, Janet, have had there. It will also fund environmental research on the Gulf.
In the last Notes I commented on Evan Connells body of work. Now I have read about his latest book,Deus Lo Volt, about the Crusades from Associated Press newswires. It sounds wonderful! We have a request from the Hanover Inn for a 1945 Freshman Green Book to go in the lobby. If anyone has a spare copy, I will pay up to $50 for it.
