Each time I receive correspondence about an alumni trip, I say, "This is the one." But I have never made a further commitment. Thus, it was great to hear from Mike Hirsh, via Carol, about their alumni trip to China. Viewed as a Third World with a strong sense of preservation of the civilization and culture, Mike and Carol were impressed with their "forward movement and progress." As they visited the Great Wall, the Yangzte River and Tiennamin Square they were warmly welcomed by the Chinese people. Carol advises anyone who takes the trip to get in shape, as there is little time to rest. But it is well worth the effort!
Another adventuresome classmate, though closer to home, is Chuck Lamb. Chuck left Bristol, Maine, on May i with plans to visit all 48 contiguous states and the four corners. An angle of this "See American 2000" odyssey is that Chuck will visit 25 other Bristols in the United States. This sounds rather tame until you learn he will be traveling via motorcycle—his Triumph Trophy 1200! Wife Christine, very supportive of Chucks fantasy, will join Chuck in Florida and Washington, and will be in Bristol to welcome him home on September 1. Following this grand experience, Chuck hopes to publish a photo essay of his once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Though Hoagie Rosania maybe modest, his son Rick' 88 is proud to report that his dad has been elected president of the Massachusetts Orthopedic Association for the upcoming year (May 2000-2001). Rick and wife Karen have also blessed Hoagie with a third grandchild, a beautiful little girl, Lindsay.
A thoughtful note from Paul Egner, still in Houston after 25 years. Paul retired from Shell Oil in 1997, after a career of 34 years. Paul and Jane have found retirement very rewarding as they involve themselves in church activities and the Houston Grand Opera Guild. Paul also finds time to serve his civic duty on several volunteer and "unpaid" boards. Their three children and three grandchildren are also in the Houston area, and a seven-day Alaskan cruise for all was enjoyed this past summer.
I am waiting to hear more about Tina and Bill Colehower's trip to New Zealand for the Americas Cup, but I suppose they are still getting adjusted to their new life of retirement!
