What We Did This Summer: Sixty-nine silver-haired/fringed classmates met in Hanover for a wonderful 60th reunion. The appearance of many smiling spouses added to the joy of the three-day event. Robbins Barstow found the gathering so meaningful to him and his Meg that he went home to Connecticut and pored over his many files of college notes and papers. This research led to an interesting 10-page introspective on his four years at Dartmouth.

Pete Keir passed the summer in another way. His family organized a reunion of their own at Wintergreen resort in Virginia. Pete, possibly worn out by his successful campaign for class vice president, was rejuvenated by tennis matches with his three sons.

Your secretary used the same regimen while assembling with 14 family members in the Washington, D.C., area. We had some spirited tennis competition, but I wisely sat out the swimming and two-on-two basketball.

Patty and George Herman beat the Washington heat by taking a three-week train trip through the Canadian Rockies in August. It was rumored that George was the only newsman who was not interested in interviewing that sterling representative of the people, Gary Condit.

Class president Steve Winship and his partner Lucy spent a bunch of the summer on the rocky coast of Maine. He maintained contact with his staff officers via notes of encouragement concerning their duties. It looks like Steve will run a tight but happy ship.

George Baines and Betty spent the summer as usual fishing and crabbing on Singer Island, Florida. Feisty George is in his 20th year with cancer and colostomy and he just finished his 53 rd year doing tax returns for "little old ladies." Wotta guy. Talked to Larry Thompson in Lincoln, Massachusetts. Said he feels good but needs a cane to get around. Happy and proud of his 59- year marriage to Dorothy. Larry got a Ph.D. in economics from Flarvard in 1951 and taught at the Harvard Business School until early retirement in 1981. Cheers to all for a happy fall.
