Once again the class of 1934 has distinguished itselfwith an announcement by the College that our Stan Smoyer has made a commitment of $4.5 million to build a new soccer facility for men's and women's teams. The new facility will be named inhonorofAlden "Whitey" Burnham, a coach and administrator at Dartmouth from i960 to 1989. Stan's sons were soccer standouts on Burnham's teams in the 1960s. The facility will be located near Scully-Fahey Field at the east end of the campus and will feature a top-quality natural grass pitch, permanent speceating, seating, a press box, field lighting, scoreboard and space for concessions and rest rooms.

I received a very nice letter from Dr. Michael Sporn of the Dartmouth Medical School, who expressed his appreciation to the class of '34 for what they have done for cancer research and to give special thanks to Oscar Cohn and Emerson Day for their help.

In case you are wondering whatever happened to Jim Shea Jr., who won the gold medal in the last Olympics skeleton race and who is the grandson of our classmate, Jack Shea, a two-time Olympic champion (1932) in speedskating, who was killed in an auto accident just before the Olympics Jim Jr. had a very serious leg operation that lasted six and a half hours and involved more than 400 stitches. He hopes to participate next winter in Torino, Italy.
