"First things first" my grandma used to say as she would tear into a box of chocolates. So here's an important reminder that the mini in Hanover this year will be on October 3rd and 4th, coinciding with the Cornell game. Vic Schneider and Don Hanks have planned a full weekend of pleasurable events. The game is being televised with the kick-off at noon, so that means the class meeting and brunch at the Demings will be earlier than usual. The Friday night dinner will be held at the Alden Inn in Lyme and the Saturday night repast will be at the Quechee Club, Murphy's Farm.
Another mini-reunion may be available for '41s and their ladies living in the southeastern United States. The annual Sarasota luncheon get-together may be expanded this winter to an overnight affair at a southern resort. Replies to a survey of 100 classmates indicated interest in a one or two-night gathering in March 1998. A committee appointed by President Don Stillman is looking into the prospects, so stay tuned for farther details.
A surprise phone call was received from George Canfield up in Madison, Conn. He sounded fine despite a heart attack in March. His call was in response to the question in this column about classmates earning the title "great grandfather." Bob Harvey, another Connecticut Yankee, recently gained that venerable title, but Pop Canfield, as he was known in undergrad days, claims January 14, 1992, as the date of his entitlement. Any other classmates with bragging rights in this area?
A recent article in Parade magazine discussed the matter of the White House going to the dogs, literally. They wrote about the tradition of canine pets in the Oval Office while giving a solid plug to Roy Rowan's book, First Dogs, due out in June. Way to go, Roy. Professors Frost and Cox would be proud of your versatility. Cheers!
