In spite of the cheer and good will that the present addition of the Big Green gridiron team is bringing to all alumni, this fall has not been without its more somber minutes.

It is with great sorrow that I must relate to you the tragic news of the deaths of TomCranna and of John Porter. More details of this will appear in the In Memoriam section of the January issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.

If some of you are passing through Hanover this winter and happen by Occom Pond, that quick flash on the ice is none other than Warren Loomis. Zog is headquartered in West Lebanon, and promises to fill me in on his activities the next time we bump into each other.

In Minneapolis Dave Schwantes has been named to the newly created position of director of corporate finance planning for Pillsbury. He joined Pillsbury in 1964 as an internal auditor and has since served as manager of computer auditing, controller for the grain merchandising division, and corporate director of investment control. Somehow he also found time to be a director of the Hennepin County United Fund drive, chairman of the Pillsbury Company United Fund drive, and president of the Pillsbury Credit Union.

The newest potential "Amazin' Met" is Frank J. Milon IV who was greeted by proud parents, Frank and Barbarlee on Oct. 18. Barbs says Pop has the heir apparent picking up grounders already. Young Frank starts off with a disadvantage as he struggles for recognition from sisters Patty (6) and Debbie (5).

The Milons were seen at Princeton with Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Roessler up from Pittsburgh. Incidentally Frank and Barbs welcome all baby viewers to their pad at 39 Gibson Blvd. in Valley Stream, N. Y.

Joining the Milons and the R.oesslers at Princeton were Sims and Robin Browning who tied the knot Oct. 11 in Jacksonville, Fla. Robin baby is a graduate of Salem College in Winston Salem, N. C. Proving you can take Salem out of the country (pretty bad). Sims and Robin are doing their thing in N.Y.C.

Another of the last of the dying breed is Allen Hill who is due to take the aisle trip in January with Johanna Bartelenk of Concord, N. H. Following his Dartmouth tenure, Al made degree stops at MIT and Penn, and now is an active architect in Boston. The bride-to-be polishes up the youngsters in the public school system in Stoneham, Mass.

If you're going to go, go in style says Allen Weeks. Al was married to Connie Merrill this past September. The groom had just recently retired from the Air Force following three years at B.U. Law School where he was case editor of the Law Review. Dick Hannah helped out Al at the service. To celebrate the occasion, the newlyweds honeymooned on a safari in East Africa, proving no doubt that it's just as much fun on the back of an elephant as it is at Niagara Falls.

Jim Varnum has reached the top rung of the ladder at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals with his appointment as Superintendent. He joined the Hospitals' staff in 1964 as an administrative assistant and was promoted to assistant superintendent and then associate superintendent. He is president of the Madison Hospital Council and is on several Wisconsin Hospital Association committees. Besides his Dartmouth degree, he has an M.A. in hospital administration from the University of Michigan.

The latest corporate executive in America is Bob Deines who is director of advertising and promotion for all parent company inns in the U.S. for Holiday Inns, Inc. Bob has been competing with Howard Johnson since 1967, and promises to put his experience in the Phi Gam basement to good use in improving the image of the Nation's Innkeeper.

Dave Bishop is another of us '62's who can't seem to get out of N. H. Dave is busy doctoring the sick and injured as a G.P. in Littleton, N. H. The new country doc finished up his tour with the Army Medical Corps in 1969 following service in Viet Nam and at West Point. When not dispensing N.E. remedies, Dave can be found with wife, Elizabeth on the Old Franconia Road in Littleton.

Another month bites the dust and as winter sets in bringing along thoughts of Christmas, Susan, the twins, Matthew and I extend to all of you our very best. We thank you for continuing the warmth of our Dartmouth experience, and we invite all of you to join in our prayers for peace.
