Stu Finch's interesting travel report continues from the last column: "In May I had a one week visit to the city of Irkutsk in Siberia as a representative of the American Cancer Society (ACS).. .to assist in the establishment of a volunteer organization in that region similar to that of our ACS....In addition to poor cancer control there is widespread AIDS and drug addiction among the youth of the region. On May Day I was-in Moscow, where on that occasion there is no longer a show of military strength but many old Communist Party members parade along the streets with their red hammer-and-sickle flags in full display."

George Hinkley passed away last June, and here is a touching tribute to him received from his widow, Bettie Aab: He died of "colon and liver cancer and heart attack complications he had in 1997.1 was married to George 38 years after the death of his first wife, Viola. He was a loving husband, father nd a very kind human being. He is missed every day and was very brave and did not question or complain in his trials. A real tribute to his father-image is that the poem and talk given at his memorial were (by) my daughters, his step-children, who bonded so closely with him and he with them. He was a fine, intelligent man and I was fortunate to have so many years with him."

We have already reported that Hazen Hinman retired in 19 67. There are quite a few retirees from the 19705, and here are some from the first part of that period: Bill Russell, who went part time in 1967 and left part-time work in 1972; Don Baldwin, who left as v.p. of The Bead Chain Manufacturing Cos. in 1971; Nelson Craw, who retired as captain in the U.S. Navy in 1973; Armand Guarino, who went onto the beach in 1972 from his post as senior high school principal in Ayer, Massachusetts; Gene Hoch, in the same year, who had been attending urologist at St. Lukes Hospital in New York City; and Carl Holekamp, also 1972, who had been president of Holekamp Lumber.
