Dick Silver reports on his activities during the first few months of 1999: "...I'm still working at the Akrochem Corp., Akron, Ohio, as chairman and C.F.O. Our oldest son, Walton, is president and C.E.O. .. .Visited Phoebe and John Montagne in Bozeman, Mont., while at the Big Sky Ski Resort. Also, had a good ski with John at the Bridger Bowl Ski Area.

"A few weeks later Betsy and I spent ten days in Park City, Utah, where our youngest son, Rick, lives. Obviously, Rick and I skied many days (there)... Our next trip will be in April, driving to Florida with some stops along the way to visit friends. We'll end up at Siesta Key, Sarasota, where we'll stay until May 1. We have a daughter and son-in-law who live on Siesta Key. Also my youngest brother, Stuart, a Dartmouth grad, lives on Bird Key with his wife. He is a retired M.D. Betsy and I expect to be in Akron for the summer; (330) 864-0546."

Immediately after hearing of the unfortunate death of former class president DickRugen, I received this note from JoeNason: "After receiving an alert from Peggy Rugen, I sent Dick die following telegram, 'To Dick, the best roommate in all the world! Love, Joe.' Peg said on the phone that he received it before his death and mustered a smile. "I roomed with Dick for three years at Dartmouth and always said that he was a saint to put up with my shenanigans. He was thoughtful, gentle, caring...the sweetest guy that I ever knew, and I know that my classmates will join me in offering their sympathies and support to Dick's Peggy, his Colby junior date of 60 years ago." Joe adds a PS: "Mary and I spent three months in Florida and we played golf, rode bikes, and walked the beach at Marco Island. In February and March we were in Ocala, where our daughter has a horse farm."

In sending Dick's obituary, his son Jim wrote: "Dad loved Dartmouth; it was an extremely important part of his life. He was a fine man, a straight shooter in all respects, a loving husband and father. I was lucky to have been, and continue still to be, his son."

A nice thank you from Emmy Halsey, who said the family "greatly appreciated" the nice obit in the magazine. "We certainly miss Hugh tremendously, but we are thankful that his suffering was not long and drawn out. Having plowed through a lot of paper work, ...I'm headed out west to visit two of our daughters and looking forward to enjoying a pleasant time."

Another widow, Marian Bolton, wrote to inquire about the obituary in the magazine for her husband, Dick. "He enjoyed his years at Dartmouth so very much," Marian said.

Big mystery: listed on the class executive committee roster is Robert Kirsch, but no record of him exists, either in the class or the college records. Will Bob Kirsch—or anyone who knew anything about him—please let us know.

REMINDER: The big mini-reunion is scheduled for Oct. 5-7 at the magnificent Balsams Resort in upper New Hampshire, to be followed by three days at Lake Morey and Hanover, Oct. 8-10 (including Saturday's football game) and our annual class meeting. Hope to see you at both events!
