A potpourri of class and alumni news this column. My rhetorical question in a prior column about what was the name of Pete Wonson's group prompted two responses, neither from a '68. Ham Sandwich, calls in Kathy Langlois, former spouse of one of the members, noting other '68s Dan Morganroth on guitar and Scott McQueen as manager. It was Tracks, e-mails Gar Anderson, a former restauranteur and pub owner from Stowe, Vermont, who had the group as his first act when he opened a nightclub in Stowe in 1969.1 was momentarily baffled to get two different answers, but class prez Steve Calvert (of the Night Watchmen) clarified both names were correct. All respondents noted Pete's greatest crowd pleaser was 'All Along the Watchtower." I received a typed (haven't see those recently) note from Jon Page's father alerting the class that Jon had recently been named general partner at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Press release on Leckie Rives, recently named by Virtual CEO Inc. as senior vice president and chief financial officer. His new company is based in San Juan Capistrano, California. Before going Virtual, he spent 18 years with United Dominion Industries and later was a founder of Perigon Medical Distribution, a venture-backed startup for which he led 11 acquisitions and raised more than $41 million in capital. In other California news, an e-mail from Bill Ferrier: In spite of bad traffic, crime, serious public school problems and outrageous price of housing, he loves it in the San Francisco area. He and Debbie recently moved to the Oakland Hills, with a great view, a nice hot tub, beautiful garden and a large deck bordered by magnificent eucalyptus trees and their "kids," their Corgi dogs. They miss their small bungalow, but accept that "with each change something is lost as well as gained. This is true for me with changes in love relationships, jobs, friends, health—everything. We all have to deal with it. I guess right now I am very much at peace, for the first time in a long time." Nice thoughts for all of us.
Some plugs: In two years, our next reunion (can you believe 35th?) will be upon us, in June 2003. Keep it in mind...we'd really love to have a great turnout...even if it has been a third of a century since you've been back. And there are a couple of opportunities, besides interviewing, for ongoing interaction with Dartmouth. The Alumni Advisory Network is looking for professionals to advise undergraduates and recent alumni on career options. A related area looking for advisor/mentor help is the Tucker Foundations Partners in Community Service. Check the College's Website on both (and others).
Have a great spring, and send news.
