Tim Michalak writes: "The people of Portland, Maine, are almost as attached to this place as we are to Dartmouth. I'm working in the investment division of Unionmutual, a local insurance company, married to Nancy Mooney, UNH, and the father of three beautiful children - Geoffrey, five, Vanessa, three, and Clarissa Emily, 10 months." Tim is also studying for an M.B.A. and added that Eric Smith is in the area and owns a Valcom computer franchise.
Bill Rogers and his wife, Karen, live in Keene, N.H., where Karen is a clinical specialist in neurology and Bill is in private practice in orthopaedic surgery. Their first child, Kyle William, was born last April. In their few moments of free time they enjoy windsurfing and skiing.
This past September, David Karoff started work as the executive director of SWAP, a small nonprofit organization involved in abandoned housing rehabilitation on a "sweat equity" basis with low and moderate income "homesteaders" in Providence, R.I. He closed his note with, "I still have the same marriage and the same kid, almost a year old."
Mary Ellen Collins McDougall is currently on leave of absence from Data General, where she has been working the past four years in marketing after getting her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Last spring, she and her husband moved to Littleton, Colo., where their first child, Colin, arrived on the scene.
From Jeffrey Cutts: "A lazy summer ... in the last few months (in no particular order) a career change, a marriage, a honeymoon, a move, and several green 'trophies!' " Last June Cuttsy married a lovely southern belle, Rebecca L. Johnson. The career change involved a move from teaching and coaching at the Princeton Day School to the Wyatt Company in Wellesley, Mass., and the world of actuarial consulting. Somewhat rhetorically Jeff asks, "Isn't every former mathteacher-coach-type person a consultant?" This past weekend the mail brought a
lovely bit of prose from our illustrious president, R. C. Bane: "October 19, 1985: Just outside of Harvard Stadium for our mini-reunion '85. 605 days till the 10th!!! The Bloody Marys from Michael's Restaurant were superb - so were the DDA box lunches. The class of '77 was out in full force - more than 120 braved the downpour that lasted from early a.m. to late p.m. That's not to say that everyone made it to the game; about 60-70 of our classmates took refuge from the rain and Harvard's romp over the Green by keeping dry (so to speak) under the class tent." Richie went on to relate a bit of news about some of the folks he accosted. Paul Donovan, Senator John Kerry's (Mass.) reputed right-hand man, is back in Cohasset reliving the good old days. Robert "Bags" Bagby wandered into Cambridge for a break from his crosscountry move from Seattle to Virginia. Bill and Taki Donovan and Jill and HossRogers are setting IBM longevity records in Westchester, N.Y., and Boston, Mass., respectively.
Dan Mahoney was eloquently expounding on a variety of subjects while Kevin and Laurie Young's two-year-old son was cruising about the tent in a football helmet. Tom Bailey sported a saltand-pepper beard, the ever present sweater under a sports jacket, and a lovely escort on his arm. Ken Joiner sported Mike Brigham. A random check of active participants included SteveCordy, Phil and Gretchen Heller Farmer, and Peter and Shari Hazelwood. Special thanks go to Janet Kluczynski for setting up a great reunion.
Happy holidays!
