My request for a copy of the 1945 Green Book brought on four quick offers so that matter is closed. A response brought on a conversation with Fred "Fritz" Schmidt in Milwaukee that I might not have had. He was one of those in the 10th Mountain Division. He was not mentioned in the article on page 55 of the Jan/Feb issue of DAM, but it was corrected on page 5 of the following issue. Fritz has written a book he is presently offering to Rauner archives. Art Nichols has also written a book, a mystery, for which he can be proud. Barbara Broderick has also offered something to Rauner, a Dartmouth commencement program from 1862. I have that date correct. She received it from family and wanted a proper place for it. If you have not already seen the new Rauner (Webster) Library it will be a treat. It has a jewel-box-like interior that stores the books under atmospheric control. A tunnel connects with Baker giving additional storage. Bob Paulson mentioned the 1945 newsletter from April 1943 that Bud Street had. Those eight pages by Ralph Tyler sure illustrate the confusion, reaction and experiences our class was going through at that time.
My wife, jocelyn, and I had a nice lunch with Dr. Fred Davies and his wife, Annette. Fred has been a surgeon here in Hanover for much of his career.
This is acontinuing wake-up call to those of you who are fighting the Internet and computers with your grandchildren. When Ruth and Jack Reeves were here for the 2000 reunion they got good help from Blunt on how to get their College e-mail address straightened out. Many of us have been forced onto the Internet by our grandchildren. At the last class lunch in Norwich, Vermont, it developed that even our esteemed president Joe Michael was getting that kind of pressure. It can not be fought.
The April/May Dartmouth Alumni Magazine included an obituary for Charles William Drake. We were told after publication that he also had a brother, Guy, and sister, Tracy Drake Hamilton. I am sorry about missing that information. Do not forget the class mini-reunion at Queechee, Vermont, September 28-29.
