Back in February I received a note from Frank Aldrich saying he was off "for Brazil to be in attendance at the Inter-American Development Bank meeting to be held in Fortaleza on the northern coast in the state of Ceara." He recalls that decades ago he had worked that same turf when Fortaleza was little more than a small village. It is now a teeming tourist mecca. Things change all over this crowded world. Speaking of the world, John White had occasion to send me a change of address on Charles B. English to Viktoria Strasse 5, 61476 Kronberg, Germany. He has had an interesting life in Germany. In contrast to the Enron accounting, Harry "Old Fud" Hampton sent me a copy of Salomon Smith Barneys report on our Weather Station Trust showing a balance of more than $9,000. Harry has reported that this trust is in good order and is adequately funded. We get word that Eugene Welch Wilkin was to be ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests at St Albans Anglican Church,Tacoma, Washington,on April 13. Our congratulations and best wishes to Gene on his attainment and follow-through. For a note on the changing times, Dartmouth's new Institute for Security Technology Studies has a Web site called "Security in the News," (www.news/ists.dartmouth.edu/todaysnews.html) for computer and information security media coverage. Try it as another way to get into the 21st century.
As construction on the Bakei/Beriy Library in all of its phases gets nearer completion in this year 2002 we are informed about the new dorms for 600 students on Maynard Street where the old hospital used to be, with new dining and social facilities in addition. Multi-story parking is to be added just south of Thayer School to relieve some of that problem. There will be a new math building and renovations to Alumni Gym and Thayer Hall. The hospital is also undergoing a huge improvement. Come see it at the mini-reunion in Quechee, Vermont, September 27-29 with New Hampshire football.
