On December i, 2001, in connection with the annual meeting of the Alumni Association and the Alumni Council, the Zahm Courtyard was dedicated. The Zahm Courtyard is located just east of the Hanover Inn and in front of the Hopkins Center in a beautiful, tranquil setting containing a fountain, benches, stat uary and plaques to the war dead from WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The class of 1945 has furnished a plaque with the names of the 24 class mates killed in WWII mounted on a wall where they can be read easily. The location of the courtyard is such that it is set aside but in a place near a great deal of traffic, so it is ideal. At the time of the dedication.Harry Hampton and Dick "Bull" Hinman became aware of a booklet prepared by emeritus history professor Charles T. Wood on the campus war memorials, covering those killed in the wars from the Civil War to WWII. It describes the 1945 weather post both on the outside and inside of the Inn as well as the new Zahm Courtyard. Harry and Dick have arranged to have the College mail this booklet to the class. If you have not received a copy by the time you read these Notes and want one just notify me. I will mail them out as long as the supply at the College lasts. In discussing this with Harry he recalled that when the weather post was proposed there was not enough money or space on the Inn wall to have the names of the WWII dead on the weather post so the plaque in the Zahm Courtyard takes good care of that problem. It was also remembered by Ted Riley that Harry was the one who suggested borrowing the words "The Hill Winds Know Their Names" from the alma mater to put on the weather post. Now they are being used by Prof. Wood very appropriately in his booklet. Harry and Dick are to be commended for their efforts in getting the booklet sent out and Dick for arranging for the new plaque in the courtyard.

This is a reminder to send in your e-mail address to Shorty Pierce (gbp1945@aol.com) for inclusion in the class list. Don't forget the minireunion in Quechee, Vermont, September 27-29, 2002, with the UNH football game.
