Ourworld changed dramatically on September 11,2001. I do not believe that any classmate is listed among those lost, but I am sure that many of their families have been affected, either directly or indirectly. Please pass along any information you may have in this regard so.that I may share it with our classmates.
I have received numerous items of interest from the College relating to the business and professional successes of classmates: Glen Britt was named chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable; since joining Time Inc. in 1972 he held senior finance and business development positions with the company. Mike Everett was named chief financial officer of Network Robots, a leading-edge network start-up company. Ferro Corp. recently appointed James Bays as vice president and general counsel. John Hammer schimidt has been confirmed by the United States Senate as a member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB); this is the third Senate confirmation for John, his tenure is second longest in NTSB history. John has participated in dozens of on-scene investigations for all modes of transportation.
Mike Markaverich has just bought a home in Sarasota, Florida, with a separate music studio and office; he has been learning the voice recognition software called Jaws and is excited to be finally connected to the Internet. He would love to hear from other classmates.
Tim Dreisbach and wife Pat spent a busy year in which Tim resigned his position at Metricom, they sold their house and traveled extensively before finally arriving at their new permanent address in Hanover. By the time you read this column, they should be settled in and would love for friends to stop by and say hello. I received a note from Pat Granfield, widow of our deceased classmate Rick Granfield; she reports that their son, Patrick, is a member of the class of 2003, and their daughter Erin (Northwestern '99) is on a National Tour of The Music Man... look for her in a city near you!
Dave Reingold has received the Beachley Award for Distinguished Service at Juniata College, where he is chair of the chemistry department. In addition he recently authored a textbook on organic chemistry for first-year college students. Received word that Ken "Chico" Davidson has been named principal of business development at Andersen's Boston office. Ken's new responsibilities include expanding the firms financial consulting, higher education and not-for-profit practices in New England.
Congratulations to class president Pete Webster on his re-election as first selectman of Essex, Connecticut. Despite a nasty campaign, Pete prevailed. Sadly we must also offer Pete condolences on the death of his father, William Webster, a loyal, dedicated member of the class of 1939. Though Pete's father was a member of the class of 1939, he walked in line behind his son at the 1971 Commencement and received his diploma with our class—a proud moment for both father and son.
