The winter mini-reunion had its unofficial kick-off by inserting a few out-of-towners into the monthly Official College Policy and Second-Guessing Panel '48 luncheon at the Norwich Inn on Tuesday, Februarys. (If you find yourself anywhere near campus on the first Tuesday of the month, this a don't-miss event.) The scene then shifted to Dowd's Inn in Lyme, where Anne and Pete Foster, Marjie and Bill Scott, Sally and Sam Wilkinson, Helen and Foxy Parker and Joe Smith gathered for supper and overnights. This group was joined for skiing at the Skiwayon Wednesday by John Hatheway. The 20-degree, sunny, windless weather with good snow conditions made it perfect.
Wednesday night dinner brought out all these plus Ginny and Bud Gedney, Jean McLaughlin, Ellie and Bob Hukejoan and Lloyd Krumm, Ellie and Jack Park, Pat McAllister, Barbara and Bud Munson, Ann Briggs and Gloria and Ray Richard. For those who still enjoy skiing or just good fellowship, this winter mini is worth putting on your calendar. Generally the first week in February. Bill Scott does a fine job of putting it together.
Conspicuously missing this year was ski patrolman John Fenno, who took a bad tumble on the slopes in early january and injured an eye. Didn't keep him down long, though. In late February he was at Whiteface with his kids for a weeks ski outing.
The next class enclave will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 10-12, Columbus Day weekend. This is the new, more relaxed format without a strain to get to the annual class meeting or rush away to the game. A chance to hear what mischief your classmates have got into during the previous year. The football feature will be against Yale. Attendance has been growing steadily at these weekends and you may be assured that you won't look any worse then the rest of us. The colors are generally outstanding at that season, too. Much admired by those of us who have flown the cold and deciduous trees. Watch your newsletter for more details.
Lots of kudos for the Hukes and Pat McAllister for the production and mailing of our new class directory. Makes it a lot easier to get in touch with old friends.
Sad to advise that Dave Richards, retired Navy captain, passed on from complications of surgery on January 30. He was Dartmouth through and through, dragging home not one but two Dartmouth chairs after the last reunion.
Another big loss for the class is Dick Bredenberg, who passed away last fall. He dressed up in grease paint and a loincloth to lead cheers for the Big Green in freezing weather during our days on campus—the penultimate Indian symbol. He also sang in the Glee Club every chance he could, including in the Alumni Glee Club, of which he was a charter member. I doubt that Dick ever missed a reunion and he will be much missed by us all. Our condolences to Huldah, who patiently put up with his shenanigans all those years.
I'll be subbing for Moose Concannon until he gets back on his feet again so send whatever you think might fit in this column to me.
