The Arts and Sciences Graduate Alumni Association at Dartmouth (ASGAAD) held its quarterly meeting on February 8. Len Wisniewski (computer science '96), president of the board, chaired the session. Guest speaker was Trish Jackson, associate vice president for individual and organizational giving at Dartmouth. The upcoming annual phonathon, ASGAAD's primarymeans of raising funds, was discussed. Last year enough money was raised to award research grants to eight Current graduate students. Through your generosity we are hoping to expand that program by raising even more money this year. Len expressed his concern about helping alumni stay in touch with each other and with Dartmouth. He is interested in expanding the Dartmouth graduate community outside the Hanover area, if you are interested in leading or joining a regional graduate alumni group, please contact Len at lenbo@alum.dartmouth.org.

Nancy Silliman '95 (MALS'96) organized the second annual ASGAAD Carnival Weekend Poetry Reading. This celebration of poetry, which was open to the entire Dartmouth community, was held on Saturday, February 9, in the Wren Room. Nancy started the reading with a powerful new poem of her own, "In Between Spaces."

Upcoming ASGAAD events include a hike and picnic to observe the return of spring. This event is planned for Saturday, May 18, during Green Key Weekend. All graduate alumni and graduate students are invited. Len is also organizing a major graduate assault on Mt. Moosilauke sometime in the summer. He would appreciate your letting him know of any interest in this outing.

In December President Bush appointed the members of his advisory council on science and technology. I am pleased to announce that a Dartmouth graduate alumna was included. Marye Anne Fox (chemistry '74) is one of the 24 members. She is currently chancellor of North Carolina State University.
