Lisa Bianchi volunteered to be a guest writer for part of this column. Here's what she had to report: "Maybe because I'm presently an administrator and grad student in the humanities and social thought program at NYU, I tend to lose touch with my Dartmouth past. (In other words I can be a lazy friend.) Every once in awhile, though, I station myself in front of my Mac and blitz my friends from college, just like in the good 01' days. Sometimes, when people aren't so busy, I get a response.
"When I'm feeling really ambitious, I try to get some of my friends together in New York City. This past month I decided to highlight my recently acquired cooking skills by hosting an Italian dinner for some girlfriends in New York City—well, Hoboken, to be specific. Some of the women who braved the PATH train to New Jersey were Kate Werley, Julia Ford, Ashley Wendus, Denise O'Connell, Carla Torrielli '01 and Laura Brockway '01. (Jess Ross would have joined us if she weren't living in Portugal.) We drank lots of my grandfather's homemade wine and reminisced about "all-you-can-eat" pasta nights at Food Court (not really).
"The following week Alex Yates sent out a mass Blitz about a new apartment in New Haven, to which I coyly responded, 'ls somebody going to Yale this fall?' Alex's plan to attend Yale Law came as no surprise, but it was a surprise that she currently works for The Innocence Project at Cardoza Law School—right around the corner from my own office. I'm looking forward to catching up with Alex over a drink now that I know she's in the neighborhood, but in the meanwhile, she updated me on where some other zeros are heading for grad school. Rita Mitchell will be attending UVA Law this fall, and Yvonne Handler will be staying in New York and attending Columbia for her M.B.A. Finally, I was devastated to have missed a soiree out in Brooklyn in celebration of Nathaniel Fishers birthday. Nathaniel was kind enough to rub it in that I had missed out on a good time with a lot of Dartmouth people in attendance: Ed Thomas (Nathaniel's roommate), Tom Kim, Karen Mengers O'Brian, Brett Perala, Marc Conte, llya Magazanin, Matt Schlough, Mark Kim, Mike Lee, a large Crackhouse contingent (Derek Soller, Ajay Rao, Mike Meikson, Greg Patselas, Rob Auten), Alex McCormick, Jess Stanco, plus '01s Mindy Chokalingam, Jocelyn Leavitt, Chad Goodridge and Rachel Meltzer. By all accounts the party was a blast, complete with a pong table—that Dartmouth signature. (And it's a lucky alum around N.Y.C. who has a basement or a backyard to put one in.)" Thanks for this update, Lisa!
In other news, Katie Uhre is living in D.C. and working at a non-profit organization. She recently traveled to Nicaragua and Ukraine for work to observe each country's presidential, parliamentary and local elections. She was also in London for two vacations earlier this year—for New Year's with Emily Perlman and for a week's vacation with Windsor Salet, both of whom are doing well and living in N.Y.C.. Katie will be in London next year getting her M.S.C. in international relations.
Finally, congratulations to Paige Perry, who was engaged to Andy Pennock '99 at the end of March. They will be getting married in San Diego in April of 2003. Paige promises that there will be many Dartmouth alums in the wedding party.
