Hope this newyear finds you happy and healthy. I am still working through all of the updates from the end of the summer. Please be patient; I promise to get them all in! I heard from Louisa Gilder of a weekend wedding this summer at Mt. Cardigan Lodge, where Katy Young and Mike Evans were married at the foot of the mountain beside a small pond, with several 'oos in the wedding and in attendance, including Louisa, Katie Manaras, Renee (Gambell) Reichert, Takeshi and Jenny (Piatt) Toyohara, Liza Cowan, Wook Kim and Ben Arnold—who with wife Ellis Ford Arnold just had a baby boy, Oliver. Katy and Mike now live in Austin, Texas (with an assortment of cats, chickens and bees), where Katy is finishing her Ph.D. in English and Mike runs a youth farming program.

Yet I have to acknowledge that the best things that have happened to me since are my marriage to my wonderful wife, Viviana, in 2002 and the birth of my beautiful daughter Ines in July. Her growth can be seen by the minute, as she's become an expert sleeper and eater along with her brief minutes of babbling while awake. I am living in Nogales, Arizona, for a major part of the year along with a couple of months in Fresno, California. If anybody happens to pass by either place please feel free to contact me."
Paul Krakow was in D.C. on business and had dinner with Jill Hepp (fiancee of Drew McCracken) and consoled her on being stuck with all of Drew's Big Green friends, and then traveled to Maryland to see Angie (Poppe) Ries with her husband, Anthony, and their 4-month-old daughter Sophia. Paul and his wife, Nikki Savickas, then welcomed their baby girl Penelope Marie into the world on September 23. "Here's to hoping that a double-legacy will be worth something in 18 years!"
James Little and his wife, Yana, spent an August weekend with Dartmouth friends Allison Thomas Rose and Ian Rose, who are expecting their first child, and Aaron and Jaimie Meyer at the Meyers' Berkshire lakehouse. The wonderful weekend was spent kayaking, fishing (not necessarily catching), BBQing and drinking light, watery beer. Yana recently graduated from medical school and began her residency in family medicine in Portland, Maine.
One of the most difficult parts of this job is reporting the sad news, and it is with a heavy heart that I report that in early November Maureen Buletti passed away after a three-month battle with ovarian cancer. John Ladson '98 wrote: "Maureen spent several difficult weeks in the hospital after her diagnosis in late July, but she responded to her initial chemotherapy and was able to enjoy nearly two months of recovery and improved health. She spent this time doing the things she loved and seeing many of the people she loved. She hiked the mountains of North Carolina, hosted parties for her friends in our home, tended her herb garden, relished the company of our dog Ferris—reading with him in the sun on our front lawn nearly every day—and shared herself with the many people who love and care for her. Maureen's most wonderful qualities—her wit, vivacity, intelligence and compassion—were never more evident or better displayed." I was lucky to know Maureen through our time together in KDE and I know that she will be greatly missed.
