Greetings class of 2000! I'm sure many of you, like me, are still in recovery from our fabulous reunion weekend. It was great to see so many friends—new and old—at Dear Old Dartmouth. This seems to be a time of great transition for many of us in the class of 2000 and our demographics have changed as we've added graduate degrees, spouses and children to our ranks! It's great to hear so many great stories! Thanks to all of you who worked so hard to coordinate and plan the event for our class!
Getting on with this edition of news, Kelly (Miller) Cavanaugh and her husband, Mark, welcomed their first child, Maureen Kathryn, into the world onjanuaryj. Maureen weighed in at 8 pounds and is already bringing her parents much joy.
As many of you know, Eric Buchman and Joe LaBracio have had interests in TV since college and both are pursuing careers in this area. Eric graduated from the University of Southern California's Peter Stark Producing Program last year, and has been working on ABC's new medical dramedy Grey's Anatomy, created by fellow Dartmouth alum Shonda Rhimes '91. If you're one of the many who are already watching, you know that one of the main characters is a Dartmouth alum. If you're not watching yet, you should be! Joe is currently the director of alternative development at CBS. Last December he was on the road covering The AmazingRace (yet another fantastic show!). He traveled 28,000 miles in 15 days to four countries on three different continents! As you all know, the show is still in production and Joe is still covering the production as well as other programming in development.
Lea Goryn was one of eight alumni (ranging from the class of '51 to '02) who got together in Lima, Peru, for a small gathering. Over "bocaditos" and typical Peruvian pisco, the group shared an evening full of Dartmouth memories, laughter and experiences. It was an interesting reflection of Dartmouth through the years, especially seen from an international perspective.
Elizabeth (Pollina) and Jay Cormier metup with Eric Dahlberg, Chris Paolino and Dave Dexter in Washington, D.C. Over dinner and 1-liter mugs of Guinness, Chris talked about working on Capitol Hill and Eric shared stories about the Department of Health and Human Services (which Jay reports got more and more interesting with each refilled Guinness). Speaking of D.C., Drew Mowery recently relocated there to work for Dean Consulting, a small consulting firm where he'll be doing some medical-related stuff and general Rainman-like number crunching. He's living in George Stephanopoulos' old apartment in D.C. and also reports that he attended Christian Budde's bachelor party in Boulder, Colorado, in April and, amidst all the fun, Mike Lewis made a stripper cry.
On the business school front, Ryan and Christina (Dam) Jones will be making the move out to the San Francisco area later this summer as Ryan will be starting this fall at Berkeley at the Haas School of Business. Also, Lauren Scopaz will be staying in Boston to attend Harvard Business School. Congratulations!
Lastly, as this column was going to press, I heard that Erin Chisholm was recently engaged to Tom Kanter, whose courtship was the subject of a newsletter awhile back. Congratulations! Please send me stories from reunion weekend and any other updates and I will include them in upcoming notes column!
