Yet another reminder that as I while away my days here in lovely Hanover of course, there are those who love it classmates are scattered all over this fair world: I recently received a postcard from Courtney Gilbert and Jill Hopper, who were hanging out for a weekend together in Berlin (Germany, not New Hampshire) and decided to pass news on to their "wonderful class notes maven. (Maven, by the way, is an excellent kiss-up word "one who is experienced or knowledgeable, expert.")
The two are working on dissertation research, Courtney in art history in Paris and Jill in political science in Berlin. As they said in their card, "After several gloomy years as poverty-stricken graduate students, we are finally reaping the benefits of doing a Ph.D." I'm guessing that means they're now poverty-stricken in French and German, respectively.
On the left coast of the United States, meanwhile, Christine Blanchet reported that she has received her business degree from UCLA's Anderson School and is currently in a job doing planning and development in "the industry" (which, as anyone who understands L.A. would know, is entertainment). Christine passed on news about Monique Guesnon, who remains in Moscow but visited Christine for a little vacation. Another visitor to LaLaLand (Christine's term, not mine) was Robin Kalish who is a resident in ob/gyn at a hospital in Mineola, N.Y.
As is my duty, I once again turn over the newsletter to Christine and let her explain a happening: "I saw Aisha Tyler on television the other day. I think she, along with a news team, was involved in judging a kissing contest (I am not sure on this point, all I know is that she was on TV on the news)." Well done, Christine if Aisha is indeed doing the news, I'm sure the hard-hitting journalist in her would appreciate that report!
Chris and Suzanne Prior have been training for die April 28 London Marathon, joining forces with a group called "Team In Training" as well as the Leukemia Society of America to try and raise funds to aid research to cure leukemia. London is the fifth marathon they have done in their pursuit to help find a cure. Congratulations! If anyone wants to help the Priors with their quest and donate, you can contact me to get their address or phone number. The Priors live in New Rochelle, N.Y., where Suzanne is a family nurse practitioner and Chris is a doctor of osteopathic medicine.
Elissa McMillen was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in December, according to a release sent to me by a newspaper from her hometown of Glens Falls, N.Y. According to the release, she is currently practicing as an associate with the firm of Brown, Rudnick, Freed and Gresmer in Boston.
Finally, this comes as late news, but it would be remiss of me not to give the results of Nina Kemppel and Cammy Myler from the Nagano Winter Olympic Games. Cammy placed seventh in her fourth Olympic luge competition, while Nina finished 52nd in the 15-kilometer classical and 67th in the 5K classical for cross country skiing. As someone who works in the College's sports information office, I can verify that both received a lot of local and national press, but probably the coolest came when I saw Cammy on the cover and garnering an eight-page story in the January edition of Attache, the in-flight magazine of USAirways (which, coincidentally, is the official airline of Dartmouth athletics and I know you care!).
