Greetings '76: Hoping y'all had enjoyable holidays with family and friends. I'm sitting here in North Carolina looking at the wreckage of an early December ice storm, thinking that this all should be happening farther north. Only difference here is that once everything goes we don't have a whole winter to look forward to (we hope). Speaking of winter, I received a copy of Carl Little's book, The Artof Maine in Winter, a collection of pictures and essays. This is his latest of a number of art books that he has authored. Carl is a regular contributor to a number of periodicals dealing with both Maine and art. He lives with his wife and family on Mt. Desert Island in Maine.

Many of you may have seen the news that Jim Beattie and Mike Flanagan (UMass, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Bluejays) have been named as co-GMs of the Baltimore Orioles. I'm sure Jim, Martha Johnson Beattie and family are excited about the prospective move to Baltimore. While the co-GM approach is novel in baseball management, Gordie Nye emailed me from greater L.A. to remind me that one of the original baseball job shares was initiated in Hanover back in the mid-'70s when Glenn Reed '75 did the hitting while Gordie did the running. I also heard from both Todd Morris and Dave C. Clark that the two of them were able to get together briefly when Todd was in St. Louis on business. They were able to share old baseball stories; some of which I'm sure involved the destruction of some of the coat pegs in the Red Rolfe first base dugout. (He's gonna get picked off!)

There's been a dearth of news coming from the College and also from classmates, so if you're not happy with the lack of names showing up in the column, take the initiative to e-mail me. I did receive a flurry of notices from interested parties when the College chose to eliminate both the women's and mens swim teams at Daitmouth. Although we understand that the College must trim budget items where possible, the elimination of NCAA sports seems drastic when so many participants are affected. One has to wonder what sport or activity is next.

I'm sure you received the mailing from Brewer Doran regarding contributions to the Bartlett Tower Society. Please keep the College in mind as you line up your contributions for the coming year.

On a sad note, I received word that Ken Norman passed away in November after a battle with cancer. Ken left a long list of accomplishments both at Dartmouth and in his professional life. Our sympathy goes out to his friends and family. His obituary appears in this issue.

Again, please send along news of yourself and classmates. Despite what you may think, everyone is interested in what each and every one of you has going on in your lives. Best wishes to you and your families for 2003.
