In case you haven't received their e-mail messages, this column begins with news about three '9os keeping the mid-winter and mid-30s blahs at bay: With some help from Blunt and a healthy burst of Web entrepreneurship, Kate Griffiths Harrison, Sandy Morton Niles and Mel Schneeberger Robbins have asked classmates "to help organize small, fun events to connect the class of 1990 at a local level," beginning with a couple of informal gatherings focused on the Boston area." Kate, Sandy and Mel wisely observe that after "12 years out of the Ivy League, the dotcom bubble gone, kids, no kids, single, married, divorced, in shape, out of shape, a group of thoughtful peers have "a lot to talk about." Already, plans have settled for a chili supper for '9os and significant others in Boston on February 12. Just as significantly, classmates from L.A., D.C., the Twin Cities, Augusta, Georgia, and Eugene, Oregon, have expressed an interest in organizing events where they live. Kate, Sandy and Mel also encourage '9os to update their alumni directory listings online at www.dartmouth.org/ services/email/account/activate update.html —and your class officers concur. Otherwise, to get involved with events in Boston and beyond, contact Mel at melsrobbins@yahoo. com.
This trip to the mailbag also brings you '90 news courtesy of a couple of holiday newsletters from the D.C. area: Jon Sullivan and his wife, Cindy Fink, welcomed their first child, Timothy Judson Fink, on September 18. They report that their son "is even more of a delight now that we're all getting a little more sleep." After seeing TJ several times, I can attest to his parents' description—but I must note that I never saw their punchiness get the better of them. While preparing for TJ's arrival last June, Jon and Cindy traveled through five national parks in southern Utah, doing some hiking throughout. If you'd like to see some photos, point your browser to the easily remembered www.timothyjsullivan.com.
On October 28 Sarah Jacobson Lennon and her husband, Alex Lennon, welcomed their firstborn, Tyler Jacob—I think living close to Monticello has spawned a pattern in Virginia! Before Tyler s arrival, Sarah took a break from working post-Soviet nuclear issues at the Energy Department with a fellowship in Senator Jean Carnahan's office, and Alex continues to edit TheWashington Quarterly for the Center for Strategic and International Studies while completing his Ph.D. at the University of Maryland. This year's highlights for them also include a trip to the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
As this column shows, we have plenty to do these days: But to share the good news with classmates, and to help build a network of '90 resources, I hope you'll drop a line to keep us posted this year.
