Sixty years ago this June, 183 civilians were joined by 696 members of the Naval V-12 program as the freshman class. The upper classes were represented by only about 15 o civilians. The majority of the civilians were housed in Wheeler Hall and joined the V-12 for physical education and for classes. Additional members of the class were added from groups starting later but who were able to complete studies at the rate of three terms per year. From this diverse group, most continued or returned to graduate, after military service, from 1947-1950. The many good friendships made during those several years continue to the present.

Head agent Frank Weber reports that as of mid-April the class had achieved 60 percent of its goal in the annual College Fund. The picture of a group in Thayer School submitted by Jim Rudolph and taken in 1947, as published in our class newsletter, drew some responses in identifying previously unnamed persons. Ham Chase reminds us that a picture in the recent Alumni Magazine of successful female graduates includes a picture of a former presidential intern from our class- Theresa Ellis '97. Gerry Phillips provides information on the ethics institute funded by his family with presentations at Tuck School in February and April 2003. He is active in seeking arbitration and mediation as a solution to legal issues.

The sympathy of the class is offered to the families of Bob Shifman, who died on January 8, and James Davis, who died on January 12. The sympathy of the class is extended to Bob Foote, whose wife, Susanna, passed away recently.

As a reminder, the mini-reunion is scheduled for the Norwich Inn on October 24-25 in conjunction with Dartmouth Night and the Columbia football game. Keep in touch.
