'Topics of interest at our class meeting in October were too numerous to publish in a single article, thus I continue. The class supports the Smith-Woodward-Ripley dorm complex with a grant of $750 which enables the students to pursue a variety of intellectual and social activities. Brian Wolf '93, the coordinator for the dorms, attended our meeting. In recognition of their responsibility to provide alternatives to the sororities and fraternities, the College also contributes money to the dorm cluster. Adam Block asked how the dormitories interact with the sororities and fraternities, and Brian answered that the dormitory programs offer alternatives for students so that on any given night there may be a place to go for lectures, parties, gatherings, and a variety of other activities.
The College is trying to comply with the alcohol laws while giving students self-governance as well as social alternatives to drinking. It is a tough problem as 75 percent of all entering freshmen indicate that they drink, yet federal funding requires strict compliance with local laws.
Ann Edgerton has agreed to promote and increase interest among spouses and significant others to attend class activities. She would be willing to organize activities for those who accompany their partners to Dartmouth events. Please contact her if you would like to help or have any ideas.
Our West Coast reporter, Dan Searby, sends news that Robert Wilson, Kentfield, Calif., has developed a passion for the theater. As we become more and more able to pursue other interests, the lucky ones like Bob find new avocations and jump in. He is producing the show Oliver, recently played Charley in Death of a Salesman and John Johab in TheGrapes of Wrath, participated in local opera, and danced in the local ballet. The WRW Marketing Consulting Company is how he earns his bread.
After a successful career in the family furniture business, and most recently as president of the National Trade Organization, BarryRotman is another one who is saying, "What's next? "Bob Andrews and I share a passion for the deep powder at Alta. Hope we can do it together soon, Bob. Dick Burch and I pledged to get together with Don White. I have called Don and hope we can talk soon.
The news has arrived that two of our classmates have died. Allen Maybee of Center Valley, Pa., who was our class valedictorian, died on October 24; and Richard VandenBosche of Memphis, Tenn., died May 16.
