The good news is that Rosalie Cutter has agreed to do the class of 1945 newsletter. Bob Paulson had to give it up because of the press of other matters. I got a report from Howie Sawyers cousin that Howie and Alice got back from an Elderhostel trip to Spain and Portugal in April of this year. John White reports that 19 members, spouses and guests attended the minimini-reunion in Punta Gorda, Florida. Members of the class of '46 and '44 were invited, but none showed up.
I have mentioned '45 authors from time to time. Don Sisson passed on a clipping from TheNY Times on Jack Hemmenway's book The Adventuresof a Passionate Sportsman. It tells of "a life worth living."
Dick Crabtree and Dot wrote about the three and one half months they spent in their motor home last summer. Then it was off to Florida for Christmas 2002. Since I had both hips replaced successfully in 1998,1 could not help noticing Bob Zildjian's report of his comings and goings in 2002. Willi Zildjian's had so successful a hip replacement that she was forgetting her cane in restaurants, etc. Then after travel to Maine, Costa Rica, the Panama Canal and St. Croix, Bob had his other knee replaced. That resulted in a heart attack in the hospital with emergency angioplasty and a stint, from which he recovered. Then they were off to New Brunswick, a boat trip to Vienna, Nashville, Montreal, Bermuda and back home. That was a real recovery.
Mrs. W. Blake (Tony) Gibson (907 Heathdale Lane, Media, PA 19063-1647) sends us a question about the Dartmouth squadron formed in WW II. Her husband was a member. He died in i960 and she wonders who the other members of that unit might have been. You can respond to her directly or to me. I look forward to seeing you all at the class mini-reunion in Quechee, October 3 and 4, with Pennsylvania football, if you get this in time.
Then mark your calendars for the next reunion two years from now June 13-15,2005.
The next mini-mini in Florida takes place March 14,2004, once again in Punta Gorda.
