It's common in these columns to provide information about a classmates primary occupation, and then add an "also serves" sentence. Most of the time the "also serves" data, briefly touching on volunteer and community service, actually represents the activities and the time commitment of which the classmate is most proud. Giving back has become a major goal, and a praiseworthy accomplishment, for many '66ers. Here are a couple of examples. Please feel free to share your good works with others.

Joseph Hafner, president and CEO of Riviana Foods, was recently elected to the board of directors of Sysco Corp., North Americas largest food- service marketing and distribution organization.

Joe joined Riviana, the largest marketer of brand name and private label rice (brands include Mahatma, Success, Carolina) in 1972 as controller of the Central America division and quickly rose through the executive ranks, becoming president and CEO in 1984.

Joe also serves as board member at the University of St. Thomas, the Institute of International Education Southern Regional Advisory Board and the council of overseers at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University. Joe and his wife, Merrill, live in Houston with their daughter, Caroline.

Bill Gruver, a visiting professor and the distinguished executive-in-residence at Bucknell University, has been named to the board of directors of The Street.com, a leading provider of financial news and commentary. Bill previously spent 20 years at Goldman Sachs & Cos, including a stint as chief administrative officer of the equities division of the firm at the time of the October 1987 stock market crash. Bill is also a trustee, chairman of the audit committee and a member of the executive committee at Berea College and a national arbitrator of the National Association of Securities Dealers.

Tom Brady, president, CEO and founder of Plastic Technologies Inc. in Toledo, was recently named to the Third Frontier Advisory Board by Ohio Governor Bob Taft. The organization was created by the Ohio legislature to help attract world-class research and entrepreneur talent to the state.

Bill Jacoby has devoted his career to community planning and development. He is currently director of Housing Development for Community Housing Innovations Inc. in White Plains, New York. CHI provides housing and human services to thousands of homeless and low income individuals. Previously Bill was general counsel for the Albany Housing and Community Development Agency, and has been active in a variety solar and co-generation energy programs. Along the way he picked up a law degree from Duquesne and a M.P.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.

And speaking of White Plains, longtime resident Andy Seidman recently joined the New York City real estate firm of Julien J. Studley as seniorvice president and general counsel. Andy, an expert at negotiating commercial property and service agreements, was previously with Insignia/ESG and Olympia & York.
