The subject is reunions, mini and maxi. First of all, the weekend for this fall's mini in Hanover is October 29-3i. That's a change from the earlier date originally announced because David Taylor was able to obtain the DOC House that weekend for our Saturday evening bash. I believe that the football game is with Harvard and that it is Homecoming Weekend. You should have received a mailing, but e-mail me or Dave if you need more info. Wed like to see many new faces at this mini-reunion, especially since it's a sort of warm-up for the upcoming big 55th reunion in June of next year. (Note: At this writing, it is uncertain whether we will have awintei/February mini-reunion this year.)
The next reunion item is the Midwestern mini, which took place in Chicago on June 10 to 13. Thanks mostly to the efforts of hosts Terri and Bill Carpenter, it was a huge success. We numbered about 40 classmates and wives, split evenly between those from the Midwest and we Easterners. The Midwesterners, defined as guys living west of the Alleghenies: Buck, Mauk, Frey,Embree, Hood, Solberg, Bray, Miller and Fitkin. The Eastern contingent: Gleason, Kirby, Mcllwain, Taylor, Ruggles, Harned, Eldredge, Harlow, Canada and Kent. We were especially pleased that Kitty Waterman and Peggy Vail joined us. Our hosts had arranged a lot of things to do in Chicago: a welcoming reception at the Central City Holiday Inn, our headquarters; an extraordinary boat tour of the city on the meandering Chicago River; a trolley tour; a dinner cruise on Lake Michigan; and a wonderful Saturday evening outdoor party at the Carpenters' beautiful "mini-ranch," an hour west of the city. I think everyone agreed that "we should do this more often."
The third item re reunions is our upcoming 55th, in Hanover next June 13 to 16. Jack Harned and his committee are already hard at it with plans for a gala event. One highlight is to be a rerun of the panel of experts who spoke to us at our 50th: Eric Miller, George Woodwell, Lee Sarokin, Frank Gilroy and Jim Strickland, with Joe Medlicotf as moder- ator. We are proud of the success of these guys in their respective fields and look forward to their views five years later. Jack has negotiated an extra day for the reunion and we all look forward to a fine time.
