Hail fellow'72s, well met far and wide!
Your humble scribe reports once again from the verdant Hanover plain, where another 1,000- plus have just joined our ranks. Commencement day was picture perfect, the type of day that reminds those of us who live here just how blessed we are to share such a Utopian setting.
Watching the gowned throng brought back fond, poignant memories of that summer day in June of 1972 when we marched in as students only to be shortly transformed into yet another generation of new alumni going forth to face the uncertainty of the times and the future. Many of us had at least some inkling of what lay ahead; many did not. In this regard things have not changed all that much in 32 years.
My esteemed colleague in reporting to our class, John Rockwell, has again put forth a remarkable newsletter sharing the events of our lives. Hats off to you, my friend! But with John's wonderfully detailed missal I am left with no "new" news about individuals among us to share in this column. So let us turn for a few moments to class business!
If you want to share a truly terrific time of fellowship and good cheer in Hanover I urge you to join us on the weekend of the Yale game October 9. Shel Prentice has again arranged for us to gather post-game at the Top-of-the-Hop and then to dine in the ambience of one of our local eateries. Lastyear's "betatest" of this arrangement was memorable in the most positive sense of the word! Please mark this on your calendars and make your reseivations in the Hanover area early on. With foliage season (another terrific reason to "come early and stay late") rooms go quickly around here.
And on the subject of reunions, your executive committee is already contemplating our 35th. Among the considerations we are looking at is the Colleges [current] scheduling ofreunions for the "older" classes. Yikes! Are we old??? I don't THINK so!!! At any rate, we would have to celebrate our reunion during the "early" part of the week, currently defined as Monday-Tuesday- Wednesday. The considered thinking among many of our brethren is that we are still gainfully employed for at least a few more years and this set of days essentially requires taking an entire week off from our respective responsibilities. Attractive, yes, but practically doable?—perhaps not for many people. Some classes are moving their reunions to the fall, others are working outside the prescribed schedule to allow for a weekend to be integrated into the event. At this point we would like to solicit your input as we explore our own options. If you have opinions please share them with me or anyone on the executive committee.
Related, please also give some thought to the mid-term reunion President Jon spoke of in our recent newsletter and give us some feedback there, too.
So that's it from Hanover, men! Best to you all!
Yours in Green always,
