I'm just back from a journey to Holland and Belgium. On the trip I met up with Sally Carter, widow of Dr. Jack Carter. She was with a group from her hometown of Albany, New York. Prior to that, while in Florida, I met up with the grandson of Craig Bedle, The young man is at the George School and aspires to be a Dartmouth man. Hope that becomes a fact. That led me to call Craig, now retired and living in Chester, Connecticut. Craig was with American Express for years and in many places. He's a New Jersey guy and a classmate of our Jack Novascone, who is far away in California. Had not talked to Craig for years. We spoke of many of our classmates who were members of the USAAF "Dartmouth Squadron" ofWWII fame. Lowell Thomas, Bill McDougall and the late Bob Heussler were all in that group. Then to Cincinnati and spoke to Dr. Clayton Sikes, now retired. Stays in touch with John Steele. (Tried to reach you, John, but no success.) Did have a long talk with Tom "Gus" Gillaugh. Still in Dayton, Ohio, along with Dick Scharrer. Dick finally retired from his law practice. I got a long letter from Stan Waterman. His book See? Salt is coming out in October, courtesy of New World Publications. This deals with his vast experience in diving and writing about it for more than 40 years. Stan markets and hosts dive tours all over the world for half the year. However, he notes he's still most proud of his prowess as a long-distance runner for Dartmouth, and well he should be. One of the best. He can be reached through www.stanwaterman.com in case you're contemplating some underwater activity. Finally, I reached out for Bob Kimball in Arizona. Spoke with his wife, Jackie, and she relates they will be selling their New Hampshire home and taking up permanent residence in Arizona. I could not get Tom Adams but his wife, Emily, assures me we will make our Alumni Fund goal. Thank you all.
I regret to inform you of the deaths of classmates Donald R. Mason on February 18 and Louis A. Witzeman on September 2,2004. We extend our deepest sympathy to their families.
