Just when I think I am the only classmate left who is not married, another one comes along for me to report. This time the nuptials to mention are those of Jesse Bradley to Laurie Stahle. A host of Jesses former Big Green soccermates were in attendance—Tommy Clark (in kilt, of course), Brook Miller, Matt Leblanc and Mike Helton (to the best of my knowledge, none of them were in kilts). Jesse and his new wife also have made the move from lowa City to a place that I am sure reminds them very much of lowa City-San Diego, where he has accepted a position at North Coast Church (www.northcoastchurch.com). I knowyou will all be surprised to hear this, but according to Jesse, "It has not been very difficult adjusting to the weather and beaches."
First comes love, then comes marriage, then.. .you know...baby time. Jackand Jenn Newsom had Edward Jensen Newsom in December, adding to a family that included mom, dad and, of course, Henry, their dachshund. According to Jenn, they are enjoying life in Newton, Massa-chusetts, "where we live in a money pit (perched on top of a very steep slope) that used to be an unofficial Boston College fraternity house." Now that is living! Jenn works for Chubb as vice president for casualty insurance in the Northeast, while Jack is working on his doctorate in health services research and working for Pharmetrics in Watertown.
Got a long e-mail from Dan and Susan Fisher-Owens (well, from Dan, but it represented both of them...you know how that stuff works). He wrote, 'After eight years of slogging through med school and law school, medical residency and corporate law firms in Washington, D.C., Susan and I have moved to San Francisco! Susan finished her residency in primary care pediatrics at Children's National Medical Center last year and got a position as assistant clinical professor in the department of pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. I just passed the California bar and am continuing to practice export/import law with my D.C.-based firm from San Francisco. Some days I have a 24-foot commute, other days its 2,400 miles!"
More from Dan: "We bought a house at the top of a very big hill in the Inner Sunset District, which is working our quads and glutes. Our Labrador Percy has lost eight pounds since arriving! I, on the other hand, have been enjoying the city's gustatory pleasures a tad too much (e.g., sourdough) and am about breaking even."
Susan sees Ted Ruel, who was chief resident for pediatrics at UCSF last year, and she also has the treat of supervising some late-20th-century/early 21st-century Dartmouth grads in the residency program. (According to Dan, "They looked blankly at us when we compared the walk up the hill to our home to hoofing it from the River Cluster to Kiewit to pick up term papers.") Dan also mentioned Erika Hall, who lives in SanFran, and, of course, our intrepid class president Kate Aiken. Back in D.C. they keep in touch with Hill Wellford, who is an attorney at the antitrust division of the Department of Justice.
