Our mini-reunion in Hanover on Homecoming Weekend has come and gone and the weather is telling us that winter is not far away. One thing that is close in my memory was hearing a rumor that a classmate had died with no notice to the College. That's my department, of course, and I got right on it with a call to the wife or widow. Instead, I got on the line the classmate, who was very much alive. He is Gerry McMahon, who some of you may remember in our first two years. As Gerry explained it, he had a lot of fun living in Topliff. As it turned out, too much fun according to Dean Neidlinger, a classmate of Gerry's father. The two '23ers talked about Gerry's future and his father decided it would no longer include Dartmouth. To make a long story short, he worked a year before matriculating at Fordham and graduated with the class of 1954. His career was in marketing in the food industry. He is still married to his first wife, has four kids and eight grandkids.

As most ofyou know, our classmate Pete Martin's early careerwas repotting for Time magazine. In 1978 he was reunited with the Institute of Current World Affairs, a Hanover-based organization that provides people with two-year fellowships for study of an issue, country or region outside the United States, as its new director. As the institutes director he saw it flourish during the 28 years of his leadership. He's not retiring but just moving on to a new venture that involves lawyers learning about foreign cultures and important current issues such as international property law. Wow!

Going back 50 years of Alumni Magazine notes we read the following in the April 1956 issue: "Miss Sandra Shoults will become the bride of Dr. David White in July. Sandra is from Wyoming, Ohio, and is now a junior at the College for Women of the University of Pennsylvania. Dave is a graduate of Tufts Medical School and is now serving his internship at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital." Their 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated in Sebasco, Maine, with children, grandchildren (10) and other relatives and friends.
