The class of 1955, under the experienced leadership of Woody Goss, did it again for the Dartmouth Fund. Raising $332,054 with 67.4 percent participation, we broke a class record for giving in a non-reunion year, which is great, but I know Woody and his team members Eliot Smith and Paul Merriken want to get participation back to last year's level. We missed by 38 contributors, who were with us last year—lets do it for the class by june 2007. Speaking of giving, our class gave the John Sloan Dickey Fund another $8,000, and Ken Lundstrom writes that the class gave $3,715 to the Athletic Sponsors Program, which resulted in, among others, a recruiting trip for a defensive back by the name of Peter Piderman '10 from Hialeah, Florida.
There are all sorts of ways to support the College—a recent announcement in Vox of Dartmouth relates that a group of'07s came up with the idea of rebuilding Harris Cabin, the oldest of 13 in the Dartmouth system.
This brings me to news from Dan Nixon, who with his son Asa '84, was doing world-class fishing at Great Bear Lake North of the Arctic Circle. Unfortunately, we can't publish the photo with the big fish, but he did run into Phil Mayer. By the way, Phil, we know you have problems with the College, but as a former chairman of Cabin & Trail, you might consider giving them a hand with the Harris Cabin.
Other news: Jim and Diane Wallace royally entertained the Gosses during an August visit to London. The San Diego Union reports that Tucker Creamer is captain of the Torrey Pines Senior Team, looking forward to the U.S. Open, which plays there in 2008. Spotted at a Phillies' game by Ken Lundstrom on Rotary night was Lynmar Brock, big as life, front and center, on the jumbo screen singing the "Star-Spangled Banner." The Phillies were so inspired they went on to win the game! Kay and Bob Perkins enjoyed an evening with Paul Merriken and Shirley Tenney when they held a family reunion in our hometown, St. Michaels, Maryland. Iris and Bob Fanger celebrated their 50th anniversary. Way to go!
Getyour reservations in now for the great trip Cecilia and Ed Willi are organizing to Chile in March 2007.
The big news for this issue is the Pilchmans' family expansion. Larry and Kathleen have adopted two Russian girls! They came to them via an unsuccessful adoption in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and are now at their home in Hanover. They arrived May 6 and are now 6 and 8 years old. Larry comments, "If you think you are tired when your grandchildren leave after a two- to seven-day visit, try it every day." Hard to imagine, but our hats are off to you both for making a real and substantive contribution to society.
On a sad note, Dick Fairley is gone. An obituary will be published soon in DAM.
Staywell,bewell!
