As the geese and mallards fly around the eastern shore of Maryland we have received a page one Valley News article on the retirement of our Tom Byrne as chairman of both the Hanover Improvement Society and the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce. The article unequivocally states that "He is Main Street," skill-fully balancing the relationships between the College, the town and the commercial community. The Hanover Improvement Society, by the way, owns and operates the Nugget Theatre, Storrs Pond Recreation Area and Campion Ice Rink. As we all remember, Tom returned to Hanover in 1962 when he became the first manager of the Hopkins Center and moved on to help the College in a number of ways including networking the campus.

Ken Lundstrom reports that he is teaching an 11-session biography class at the Academy of Lifelong Learning at Duke. His course this time is a person-a-day of important American characters who influenced the course of our nations history, including Thaddeaus Stevens, Dartmouth 1814, who, as all American history majors know, was a leading Republican abolitionist in the Civil War and Reconstruction Period. From there he goes 180 degrees to "Red Emma" Goldman, Buddy Holly, Herman Kahn and one of our Founding Fathers, the Rev. John Witherspoon, president of Princeton, who saved his reputation by being a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Interesting classmate activities include travels near and far. On the near scene, John Levitas gets over to the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame on a regular basis and has enviously attended a number of Sports of Legend events, including Hall of Fame inductions. Recently had his photo taken therewith Don Zimmer and is looking forward to seeing your secretary's favorite, Cal Ripken, enter into the Hall of Fame.

Woody and Nancy Goss just attended their 13 th Williamsburg Antique Forum and, while in Virginia, saw his old roommate Harry and wife Marge Ambrose. Woody is counting on all of us to pitch in once again to the College Fund. Participation is everything and, as of mid-January, we had 25 percent class participation with a target of 75 percent. Don't wait—get your gifts in now.

Overseas trips include Jack and Marilyn Doyle, Vietnam, and Dick Aberle's outstanding trip to Egypt.

As this is being written 35 classmates and wives are looking forward to our mini-reunion in Santiago, Chile. At the reunion we understand that Ed Willi will be receiving our class award for all the outstanding work he has done over the last few year on the Dartmouth Center on Addiction, Recovery and Education (DCARE) program for alcohol and drug abuse prevention and care at the College. More about Ed and Cecilia in the next issue.

On a sad note, Fred Lione and Gene Eilsbree forwarded the news that Porter Sesnon passed away December 30. An obituary will appear in the next DAM.

Keep the news flowing! Stay well, be well!
