A mention of Eddy Toothaker in my recent column brought youthful memories to Leonard Clark Jr. '56. Remember his father, a '31 and a football player? Junior wrote: "When I was a kid he used to tell me about a special play some of them made up to tweak the Harvard announcer. 'To Toothaker to Longnecker to Whitehair to Yudicky to Wolf' and others. This was guaranteed to tongue-tie the announcer. We can taper it off with 'to Litzenberger to Pettengill to Barber to Hedges to Pyles." Len Junior was no slouch at college, lettering in track and field (hurdles and pole vault), Green Key, Casque & Gauntlet, and art editor of the Jack-o-Lantern, painting the Winter Carnival poster when a freshman.
Peg (Mrs. James) North says she's put away her dancing shoes and skis but, although convalescing from a broken thigh, went East last June for their grandson Evan's Harvard graduation and other spots. We are grateful that Bill Lieson has overcome some health problems and will be our class agent again. Alumni records, now posting e-mail addresses, lists Don Allen, Ned Disque, Tom Dublin, Hank Kingdon, Bill Lieson, Vera Barad (Mrs. Ed Marks), Dottie Pierpont, Frank Westheimer and me. Through the courtesy of nearby helpers with computers Don Marcus, Whit Daniels and Rhoda (Mrs. John) Clark and I can communicate. After nearly six years with my computer it's still fascinating and frustrating.
With the loss of Gus Zimmerman, Pete Power and Howdy Pierpont, we "Living Legends" are now down to 29.
