A big thank you to all who have participated in the Dartmouth Habitat for Humanity project! The class auction raised $10,480 and we received an additional $4,500 through donations. We now have only $5,000 to go to hit our goal. To contribute, please send a check payable to Dartmouth Class of '88 to Anne-Marie Keane, 151 Country Drive, Weston, MA 02493.
From Houston Jonathan Risch sends news: "The last time I wrote, my wife, Alisha, and I were announcing the birth of our twins Jake and Rebecca. In August 2005 we welcomed Madelyn Blair. Life around our house has been hectic with three under 3; Alisha and I have been learning to play a zone defense. Professionally I am still with Reliant Energy, where I was promoted to vice president, retail strategy and marketing analytics.! had the pleasure of attending Tom Molnar's wedding in southern Italy last May along with Mike Freidberg, Earnest Wotring, Steve Gaffney, Pete Trump and Quentin Cote; basically a mini-reunion for the first floor of McLane Hall. Regina Glocker also attended the wedding.
In somewhat off-the-wall news, Earnest, who was my freshman year roommate, moved into a house almost directly behind ours. We are considering constructing a ladder/bridge structure to allow our children to get from house to house without having to walk all of two blocks around (it also seems safer considering they are only 3). Who would have thought that we would go from sharing a room at Dartmouth (twice) to living in the same neighborhood 20 years later?! For us it's been fun watching our kids become friends and it will be great to see them grow up together. By the way, Earnest was recently featured in Texas Monthly's annual "Up and Coming Top Lawyers" for his work defending Texas Children's Hospital."
From her home just south of Portland, Oregon, Christina (Perry) Katz is about to finish her first book, Writer Mama: Raise a Writing Career Alongside Your Kids, which will be published by Writer's Digest Books in February 2007. She writes, "It's pretty exciting since this has been a lifelong dream of mine and, of course, I am hoping that it will be the first of many books.
"I think I'd already announced in the news letter that I married Jason Katz in June of 2000 and we have one daughter, Samantha Rose, who recently turned 4, is an enthusiastic dancer and swimmer and a little spitfire (like her mom). My husband is a teacher and theater director here at Wilsonville High School. If nothing else, life is rich with plays and books and lifelong education.
"I keep in touch with former roommates Susan Marshal Abraham and Laura (Sting) Wilson and DWRC teammates Kate Benedict MacGregor, Jen Wertz Houlihan and Katie Perle. We recently joined forces to put our names on a plaque in the new Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse, which I'm sure could survive an apocalypse (the plaque, I mean, would survive—though the clubhouse looks sturdy enough and wicked swanky! Far too nice for a bunch of beer-chugging, trouble-seeking ruggers).
"Katie Perle and Kevin Jones '89 run a community-supported agriculture farm in Eugene, Oregon. Although we don't see them enough, we did get to meet son Odi and their animals last year. It's a pretty cool;value-oriented life they lead.
"I publish and edit an online 'zine for beginning freelancers called Writers On The Rise, just named one of the 101 Best Web Sites for Writers in 2005 by Writer's Digest magazine. A trifling thing, but hey, if I have learned anything in almost 40 years it's to celebrate the little stuff. Because the big stuff is just way too stressful. Happy 40th everyone! We're getting a little wrinkly, but who cares! Midlife is good. Sure beats my 205."
