Ted Ellsworth s posthumously published book Yank is a gripping tale about his WWII experiences in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He and a dozen other Americans (including Tom Braden) were allowed to join this elite British unit. Ted served under Montgomery in Africa, Patron in the American Third Army, was captured by the Germans and liberated by the Russians. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and left a touching report of it all in his book. See Ike Weeds excellent review in the Drum.

Kelvin Doyle has had a happy experience with gift planning. He writes: "In 1997, three years after Ginnie and I moved to River Woods at Exeter, New Jersey, a continuous-care retirement community, I attended a meeting conducted by a representative of the Dartmouth gift planning office. I was impressed by the presentation and subsequently made a donation to establish a charitable gift annuity with the College. While I was glad to make a contribution to the College, there was a 'quid pro quo' aspect to the transaction. I was able to make a charitable gift to Dartmouth while also receiving a 7.9 percent payout annually for the rest of my life based on the principal I donated (today, at age 87, I would receive a 10.2 percent payout). In addition there were substantial tax reduction benefits. I was also pleased to note that my name was added to the list of 1940 classmates who are members of the Bartlett Tower Society. I hope this brief recollection will encourage others to establish gift annuities or other types of gifts with Dartmouth."
