40 During our undergraduate days, Hanover in the summer was dullsville. The big excitement was Buildings and Grounds cutting the grass or painting a dormitory room. A tew chubbers, such as Herb Porter,Elmer Browne, and Scotty Rogers, hung around to work in the boondocks on cabins and trails. The change began in the summer of 1942 because of WW 11. Year-round classes started and navy officer training programs were instituted. At the tender age of 22 I was there and became a fall-fledged faculty member, teaching the rudiments of physics to premedical students.

The action last summer was provided not just by undergraduates in their summer term, but by almost a score of our classmates retired to the area. Others on campus included our usual contingent of Alumni College students, headed by Stet Whitcher and Joe Burnett. They all were "Facing Mecca." Would my Turkish prayer rug have helped? More about Alumni College from Stet in the next issue.

Carla and John Manley are no longer in Lyme, according to the U.S. Postal Service, but without actually moving an inch are now at 7 Montview Drive, Hanover 03755. When you see them next, ask them how they enjoyed their trip to Nice.

Les Nichols's untiring efforts for the 10th Armored Division Association (General Patton's men) are continuing—this time as reunion chairman for the 50th anniversary celebration on Labor Day at Louisville. Scottyand Loomy Rogers planned to be there.

Karl and Ginny Bruch have probably set a new class record by becoming grandparents of triplets. During a tennis match between the Brachs and John and Kay Moore, John took a nasty spill and broke his arm, but we hear he recovered nicely.
