Responding to my apology for misspelling his name in the last issue of this column, Karl Bruch graciously replied. An excerpt from his note: "Don't give a thought to my last name. My grandfather did that in the 1860s, when he decided that none of his descendants would be able to properly pronounce the German 'ch,' so he left the spelling alone but changed the pronunciation to 'brew.' The entire family has been stumbling over the name since then, and my part of the problem even had a relationship to a '40 classmate. Jim Ruch and I were in a lot of economics classes together, and his name is pronounced like 'Roosh.' Each professor who had the pair of us told us to decide which pronunciation he would use in his class, as he was unwilling to try to remember two of them."

It's time make your plans to attend our 65th class reunion (September 30 to October 2). A number of classmates have expressed regrets due to physical problems. We look forward to seeing the rest of you there.

We have received word of four additional classmates who have died since the last writing: April 17,2004, Holmes Van Mater; December 14, 2004, Charles P. Haskell; January 8, Francis E. Whaland; and January 10,Dr.Ned B. Hein. We extend sympathy and send our best wishes to their families.
