Greetings! This comes on the heels of a terrific reunion organized by Andy Gettinger (new class co-president with Judy Csatari) and a very efficient supporting cast that included (among others—pardon any inadvertent omissions), Gregg Fairbrothers, treasurer; Carey Heckman, registration; Sandy Fichet, marketing; Mary Kay Beach, food and beverage; Martha Hennessey, souvenirs; and Marty Doyle, tavern master and techno-wizard supreme. Andy had significant help from the overall reunion committee, which consisted of those mentioned above plus Mark Friedman, Jenny Kemeny, Wayne Mac Donald, Dave Magnus, Ralph Manuel, John Rassias, Brita Reed and David Spalding. Reunion giving was coordinated by Scott McCallister and Dave Spalding and, together with participation gurus Jim and Martha Beattie, they drummed up a record gift for a 30th reunion (final numbers will be on the order of $1.2 million and participation of almost 60 percent). Also quite moving was the memorial service for our 29 departed classmates, which was organized in Rollins Chapel and coordinated by Wayne Mac Donald and presided over by Reverends Emily Geohegan, Jeff Dugan and Rob Erickson. Readings were made by Wayne Mac Donald, Dave Magnus and Andy Goldberg. All in all, it was a success on many levels and was the culmination of all the hard work of everyone involved. I would be remiss if I failed to mention the "hit and run" appearance of Tom Parnon, who made the most of his abbreviated time in Hanover and apparently was also there in a promotional capacity for Volkswagen to demonstrate the ample sleeping space in his Jetta on Thursday night before he left on Friday due to family obligations.Tom once again efficiently maximized his reunion time and made the most of his short time in Hanover.
Martha Beattie has asked me to mention our fall mini-reunion on Saturday, October 14, at the DOC House on Occom Pond. There will probably be a class meeting prior to the game. This may give some who couldn't make it to the 30th a chance to meet in Hanover in the fall in what should be prime foliage season. More details will follow, probably in a newsletter from Lynne Brooks, who will be staying on as newsletter editor. Melanie Fisher Matte will also be staying on as class treasurer. We appreciate her efforts over the years in this valuable position. Also thanks to outgoing class president Sandy Helve, who has done a terrific job in her position during the past five years. Sean Gorman has agreed to step up to be class secretary, so please support him with news of yourself and classmates. In this age of e-mail there's really no excuse to not zip off a note to either the class secretary or the newsletter editor. As much as you may think it's pointless, there are classmates and members of other classes that are interested in what each of you is doing. Take the time and zip off a note.
On a sad note, Katy Lebowitz, wife of David Lockard, passed away on April 28 after a prolonged struggle with breast cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family. An obituary appears in this issue.
Support Sean in his efforts and keep him up to date with your news.
