This being mid-August on Moose head Lake, Maine, with 85 degrees and humid, we find it hard to emerge from the refreshing water. However, we have several items to share.
Russ Goudey, one of' 29 s top musicians, died in March this year, and a celebration of his life followed. Then injune the Oipheum-Foxboro Theater hosted a tribute to his many talents. Participants included the Foxboro High School Jazz Band, members of his own musical family and the Resident Company Actors Collaborative.
Wish we could have been there, remembering fondly the times listening to Russ in the '29 tent at reunions.
The class baby—Arthur Nighswander— writes: "Thoughts on Being 93" Now I've arrived at 93, An age I never thought to see. With hearing loss, as eyesight dims, It's harder to control your limbs. Your balance lost, you stumble round, And may even find yourself upon the ground.
You reflect on the life you've had; Some good things happened, some were bad.
But you've had a happy life, Married to a caring, loving wife. You think of cases lost or won, Of other things that you have done. You've skied and hiked and widely traveled. But never has your life unraveled. With joy and pride, your heart does swell. Your children all have done so well. We do not know what comes tomorrow, But you endured trouble, grief and sometimes sorrow.
Whatever comes, well, let it be, And be content at 93.
A "funny" thing happened bringing in the mail and newspapers this morning. A seagull flew overhead and deposited his meal on The NewYork Times. Rip quipped: "I've often wanted to do that myself."
Another Rip: The paper folks with jibes and jokes Are careful whom they're crediting But twittering birds can erase their words With their own swift form of editing.
